The need for renewable energy has become increasingly evident in response to the climate change crisis, presenting a paradoxical challenge to biodiversity conservation. The Southwest United States is desirable for large-scale solar energy development (SED) due to its high global horizontal irradiance (GHI) values and vast open landscapes. However, this region is also rich in unique ecological and biological diversity.

Transcriptome-Wide Association Study of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease Identifies Relevant Gene Signatures.

Turk J Gastroenterol

December 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine, Shandong University, Qilu Hospital (Qingdao), Cheeloo College of Medicine, Qingdao, China.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is considered the most widespread chronic liver condition globally. Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have pinpointed several genetic loci correlated to MASLD, yet the biological significance of these loci remains poorly understood. Initially, we applied Functional Mapping and Annotation (FUMA) to conduct a functional annotation of the MASLD GWAS summary statistics, which included data from 3242 cases and 707 631 controls.

Patients with dementia with Lewy bodies display a signature alteration of their cognitive connectome.

Division of Clinical Geriatrics, Centre for Alzheimer Research, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences, and Society, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Cognition plays a central role in the diagnosis and characterization of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). However, the complex associations among cognitive deficits in different domains in DLB are largely unknown. To characterize these associations, we investigated and compared the cognitive connectome of DLB patients, healthy controls (HC), and Alzheimer's disease patients (AD).

To use electronic health record (EHR) data to develop a scalable and transferrable model to predict 6-month risk for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)-related hospitalization or emergency care in youth with type 1 diabetes (T1D). To achieve a sharable predictive model, we engineered features using EHR data mapped to the T1D Exchange Quality Improvement Collaborative's (T1DX-QI) data schema used by 60+ U.S.

Child maltreatment is a major public and global health issue with well-documented intergenerational patterns. Social-emotional development, which is detrimentally impacted by child maltreatment, has been associated with parenting behaviors and implicated as a mechanism of intergenerational transmission of child maltreatment. This scoping review sought to synthesize information on the social-emotional skills that contribute to or protect against intergenerational maltreatment.
