A chemical investigation of the arils of led to the isolation of seven abietane-type diterpenoids (compounds -) including three previously undescribed compounds, one unreported natural product, and three known analogs. The structures of these compounds were determined by means of spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and ECD spectra. An antibacterial activity assay showed that compounds and had significant inhibitory effects on methicillin-resistant , with MIC values of 100 μM. Moreover, compounds , , , and exhibited anti-neuroinflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia cells, with the IC values ranging from 38.4 to 67.9 μM.

Miltiradiene serves as a pivotal precursor for the synthesis of numerous abietane-type diterpenes with important pharmacological activities. The endogenous mevalonate (MVA) pathway is tightly regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, which limits the availability of precursors for the heterologous production of miltiradiene. In this study, the orthogonal isopentenol utilization pathway (IUP) was constructed and investigated for its adaptability with mitochondria and peroxisomes in S.

Considering the detrimental impacts of the current pesticides on the biotic components of the biosphere, the development of novel pesticides is vital. Plant-derived biopesticides have emerged as popular alternatives to create a safer and more sustainable agriculture model. This study aims to validate the previous bioguided fractionation of endemic Canary Islands sage, , as a potential source of botanical pesticides using a cultivation process.

Thirteen abietane-type diterpenoids, including seven previously undescribed compounds and six known analogs, were isolated from the root and aerial parts of Phlegmariurus carinatus. Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis (UV, IR, NMR, and HRESIMS) and quantum chemical calculations (calculated ECD or C NMR). Notably, these compounds exhibited high structural diversity.

Article Synopsis
  • Six new compounds called Euphohelinodes D-I (1-6), which are ent-abietane lactones, were discovered from the plant E. helioscopia, known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
  • The structures of these compounds were analyzed using advanced techniques like spectroscopic data, X-ray diffraction, and ECD analysis.
  • The most effective compound, euphohelinode H (5), reduced nitric oxide production in inflammatory cells and inhibited key enzymes linked to inflammation via the NF-κB signaling pathway, showing potential for treating inflammatory conditions.

Eighteen aromatic abietane-type diterpenes, including three previously unreported compounds, Salkanoids A-C (1-3), were isolated from the roots of Salvia prattii. Their stuctures were extensively elucidated using 1D/2D NMR, high-resolution electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (HRESIMS) data, and ECD calculation. Among these, compounds 1, 6 and 7 belong to a class of diterpenes featuring a [5, 5]-oxaspirolactones moiety, a rare structure isolated from the Salvia plants.
