Published: May 2024

Strain-controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests were conducted on conventionally grained (CG) and ultrafine-grained (UFG) Al-Mg-Si alloys treated under various aging conditions. In the cyclic stress response (CSR) curves, CG peak-aged (PA) alloys showed initial cyclic hardening and subsequent saturation, whereas CG over-aged (OA) alloys displayed cyclic softening behavior close to saturation. The UFG materials exhibited continuous cyclic softening except for UFG 3; it originates from the microstructural stability of the UFG materials processed by severe plastic deformation (SPD). Using a strain-based criterion, the LCF behavior and life of the CG and UFG materials were analyzed and evaluated; the results are discussed in terms of strengthening mechanisms and microstructural evolution. In the CG materials, the LCF life changed markedly owing to differences in deformation inhomogeneity depending on the precipitate state. However, the UFG materials displayed a decreasing LCF life as cyclic softening induced by dynamic recovery became more severe; additionally, a relationship between the microstructural stability of the UFG materials and the cyclic strain hardening exponent was suggested.

Atom-ion hybrid systems are promising platforms for the quantum simulation of polaron physics in certain quantum materials. Here, we investigate the ionic Fermi polaron, a charged impurity in a polarized Fermi bath, at zero temperature using quantum Monte Carlo techniques. We compute the energy spectrum, residue, effective mass, and structural properties.

Neonicotinoid insecticides (NNIs) are widely used in agriculture; however, their effects on anuran amphibians remain poorly explored. This global review critically examines the existing literature, with data obtained from Web of Science and Scopus databases. A total thirty-seven studies were published from 2004 to 2023.

Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) are being increasingly recognized as viable materials for environmental remediation due to their capacity to adsorb contaminants such as glyphosate (GLY) on their surfaces. Nevertheless, the ecotoxicological implications of IONPs associated with GLY necessitate thorough evaluation to ascertain the safety of such remediation strategies. In this context, the present investigation was conducted to examine hepatic biomarkers pertinent to the redox system, as well as ultrastructural hepatic alterations in Poecilia reticulata, following a 21-day exposure to environmentally relevant concentrations of IONPs, iron ions (Fe), and glyphosate in its pure form (GLY) as well as a commercial glyphosate-based herbicide (GBH).

This study describes the development of a simple, disposable, and eco-friendly electrochemical immunosensor for rapid detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Electrochemical devices were manufactured by stencil-printing using low-cost materials such as polyester sheets, graphite flakes, and natural resin. The immunosensor comprises gold nanoparticles stabilized with cysteamine, glutaraldehyde, anti-SARS-CoV-2 S protein monoclonal antibody (Ab1) as the biological receptor, and bovine serum albumin as a protective layer.
