Understanding he impact of dry-wet and freeze-thaw cycles on the mechanical properties of unloaded damaged rock masses in reservoir bank slopes is crucial for revealing the deformation and failure mechanisms in artificially excavated slope rock masses within fluctuation zones. To address, the study focuses on unloaded damaged samples subjected to excavation disturbances, conducting various cycles of dry-wet and freeze-thaw treatment along with uniaxial and triaxial re-loading tests. A damage statistical constitutive model was established based on the experimental results and validated using numerical simulation methods.

Analysis of Tribological and Cytotoxicity Assays of a Biocompatible Mg-Zn-Ca-Pr Alloy.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

December 2024

Department of Biomaterials and Medical Devices Engineering, Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, Silesian University of Technology, 41-800 Zabrze, Poland.

This work covers a Mg-Zn-Ca-Pr alloy fabricated by a novel method of mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering (SPS). Currently, magnesium alloys used as biomaterials are mostly commercial alloys without consideration of cytotoxicity from the perspective of biosafety. So far, the tribological and cytotoxic properties of Mg-Zn-Ca-Pr alloys have not been investigated.

Water-based nanofluidic devices, where water is confined in Angstrom scale nanochannels, are widely encountered in nanotechnology. Although it is known that the material of confinement has a significant influence on the properties of confined water, much less is known of the relationship between the structure of nanoconfined water and its properties, impacting the design of nanofluidic devices. We explore the behavior of a confined water monolayer within a bilayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS) structure, comparing its behavior with that within bilayer graphene.

Effect of Ball Burnishing on Fretting at Elevated Temperatures.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, Rzeszow University of Technology, Powstancow Warszawy 8 Street, 35-959 Rzeszow, Poland.

The influence of ball burnishing on friction and wear at elevated temperatures under fretting conditions has not yet been reported. Fretting experiments were conducted using the Optimol SRV5 tester (Optimol Instruments, Munich, Germany) under dry gross fretting conditions. A ball of WC ceramic was pressed against a disc from the titanium alloy Ti6Al4V.

Purchasing or leasing? Equipment upgrades for a capital-constrained manufacturer.

J Environ Manage

December 2024

School of Management, University of Science and Technology of China, 96 Jinzhai Road, Hefei, Anhui, 230026, PR China. Electronic address:

Purchasing and leasing are two main methods to implement equipment upgrades, which can reduce production costs and facilitate manufacturing transformation. In practice, small and medium-sized manufacturers have insufficient cash to balance equipment upgrades and daily production. Under a two-stage setting, this study examines a pull supply chain consisting of a capital-constrained manufacturer and a retailer, where the manufacturer can borrow bank loans.
