Interferometric radiometers operating at L-band, such as ESA's SMOS mission, enable crucial Earth observations providing high-resolution measurements of soil moisture, ocean salinity, and other geophysical parameters. However, the increasing electromagnetic spectrum utilization has led to significant Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) challenges, particularly critical given the sensors' fine temperature resolution requirements of less than 1 K. This work presents the hardware implementation of an advanced RFI detection and mitigation algorithm specifically designed for interferometric radiometers, targeting future L-band missions.

Inspired by studies of legislative-executive conflict in modern presidential democracies in South America, we present an agent-based statistical mechanics exploration of the collective, coordinated action of strategic political actors in the legislative chamber and the conditions that may result in premature changes in the executive officeholder, such as a president's impeachment or a motion of no confidence in a prime minister. The legislative actors are represented by information processing agents equipped with a neural network, and emit opinions about issues in the presidential agenda. We construct a Hamiltonian which is the sum of the costs for the agents to hold a specific set of political positions.

Background: The creation of relief camps following a disaster, conflict or other form of externality often generates additional health problems. The density of people in a highly stressed environment with questionable safe food and water access presents the potential for infectious disease outbreaks. These camps are also not static data events but rather fluctuate in size, composition, and level and quality of service provision.

Remote sensing technologies have the potential to support monitoring of floating plastic litter in aquatic environments. An experimental campaign was carried out in a large-scale hydrodynamic test facility to explore the detectability of floating plastics in ocean waves, comparing and contrasting different microwave and optical remote sensing technologies. The extensive experiments revealed that detection of plastics was feasible with microwave measurement techniques using X and Ku-bands with VV polarization at a plastic threshold concentration of 1 item/m or 1-10 g/m.
