Hemostatic powder is widely employed for emergency bleeding control due to its ability to conform to irregularly shaped wounds, ease of use, and stable storage. However, current powders exhibit limited tissue adhesion and insufficient support for thrombus formation, making them easily washed away by blood. In this study, a hybrid powder (QAL) was produced by mixing quaternized chitosan (QCS) powder, catechol-modified alginate (Cat-SA) powder, and laponite (Lap) powder. Upon addition of QAL, the blood quickly transformed to a robust and adhesive blood gel. The adhesion strength of the blood gel was up to 31.33 ± 1.56 kPa. When compared with Celox, QAL showed superior performance in promoting hemostasis. Additionally, QAL exhibited effectiveness in eliminating bacteria while also demonstrating outstanding biocompatibility with cells and blood. These favorable properties, including strong coagulation, adhesion to wet tissue, antibacterial activity, biosafety, ease of use, and stable storage, make QAL a promising emergency hemostatic agent.

Irregularly shaped wounds cause severe chronic infections, which have attracted worldwide attention due to their high prevalence and poor treatment outcomes. In this study, we designed a new composite functional dressing consisting of traditional Chinese herb carbonized plant powder (CPP) and a polyacrylic acid (PAA)/polyethylenimine (PEI) gel. The rapid gelation of the dressing within 6-8 s allowed the gel to be firmly attached to an irregularly shaped wound surface and avoided powder detachment.

Biomaterials with antimicrobial and muco-adhesive properties represent an efficient system for different applications. In this paper, a new biomaterial based on chitosan-camphor beads and their crosslinked form with glutaraldehyde was optimized. Low and high molecular weight chitosan were considered.

Although hemostatic powders are commonly used in clinical and emergency settings, they frequently show poor absorption, raise cytotoxicity issues, and are not effective for fatal non-compressible bleeding. The purpose of this research is to create a self-gelling hemostatic powder based on chitosan, bentonite, and sodium polyacrylate (CBS) to improve the hemostatic effect. When liquid comes into contact with CBS powders, they can fuse and form a stable hydrogel in less than 30s.

This retrospective study evaluated the safety and efficacy of SURGICEL® Powder-Absorbable Hemostatic Powder (SP) made from oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Ninety-one patients who underwent TKA at Peking University Third Hospital between January 2024 and July 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. Hemostatic effectiveness was evaluated by comparing perioperative blood loss, hemoglobin (Hb) levels, hematocrit (HCT), and transfusion rates.

An electrochemical aptasensor has been developed specifically for the sensitive and selective determination of ochratoxin A (OTA), one of the most important mycotoxins. The aptasensor utilizes a glassy carbon electrode that has been modified with toluidine blue (TB) encapsulated in a Zn-based metal-organic framework (TB@Zn-MOF). The results demonstrate that in the presence of OTA, the peak current of the differential pulse voltammogram (DPV) related to TB oxidation is notably decreased.
