In recent years, the hardware implementation of neural networks, leveraging physical coupling and analog neurons has substantially increased in relevance. Such nonlinear and complex physical networks provide significant advantages in speed and energy efficiency, but are potentially susceptible to internal noise when compared to digital emulations of such networks. In this work, we consider how additive and multiplicative Gaussian white noise on the neuronal level can affect the accuracy of the network when applied for specific tasks and including a softmax function in the readout layer. We adapt several noise reduction techniques to the essential setting of classification tasks, which represent a large fraction of neural network computing. We find that these adjusted concepts are highly effective in mitigating the detrimental impact of noise.

Objective: What we hear may influence postural control, particularly in people with vestibular hypofunction. Would hearing a moving subway destabilize people similarly to seeing the train move? We investigated how people with unilateral vestibular hypofunction and healthy controls incorporated broadband and real-recorded sounds with visual load for balance in an immersive contextual scene.
Design: Participants stood on foam placed on a force-platform, wore the HTC Vive headset, and observed an immersive subway environment.

Due to the limited size of the quiet zone created by active headrests (AHR) near the human ear, noise reduction (NR) at the human ear decreases dramatically when the head moves. Combined with a head tracking system can improve the NR performance when the head moves, but most such studies currently only consider head translation. To improve the robustness when the head translates or rotates, an ear-positioning (EP) system based on a depth camera and human pose estimation model is presented in this paper and integrated with AHR.

In this paper, we introduce a novel gradient descent bit-flipping algorithm with a finite state machine (GDBF-wSM) for iterative decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes. The algorithm utilizes a finite state machine to update variable node potentials-for each variable node, the corresponding finite state machine adjusts the update value based on whether the node was a candidate for flipping in previous iterations. We also present a learnable framework that can optimize decoder parameters using a database of uncorrectable error patterns.
