Cases: Two competitive athletes with isolated comminuted trapezium fractures, sustained during American football and rugby, presented with pain and swelling of the first metacarpal base. Computed tomography confirmed isolated comminuted trapezium fractures. Arthroscopic reduction of displacement with screw fixation below the articular surface was performed through a small incision. Both patients returned to their preinjury sports levels within 2 months postoperatively.

Conclusion: Arthroscopic treatment of isolated comminuted trapezium fractures achieved accurate reduction of articular surface displacement and preserved trapeziometacarpal joint stability with minimal soft-tissue invasion. This facilitated an early return to contact sports for the affected athletes.

is a ubiquitous environmental fungus, and several osteomyelitis cases have been reported in recent years. We present the case of a woman in her 70s who sustained a comminuted open ankle fracture, with garden soil contamination of the wound, which was treated according to orthoplastic principles. The patient developed osteomyelitis 6 months postsurgery.

Background: Surgical treatment of comminuted and multiple facial fractures is challenging, as identifying the bone anatomy and restoring the alignment are complicated. To overcome the difficulties, 3D-printed "jigsaw puzzle" has been innovated to improve the surgical outcome. This study aimed to demonstrate the feasibility of 3D-printed model in facial fracture restoration procedures.

Objectives: The midline lateral parapatellar (LP) approach has been shown in a cadaveric study to provide superior articular exposure compared to the anterolateral approach (AL). The purpose of this study was to report on outcomes and complications with the LP approach.

Methods: Design: Retrospective comparative cohort study and prospective cohort.

Particle aggregates blown along the surface of playas have been linked to the disruption of interparticle bonds, comminution, and dust production. This mechanism was investigated in a set of wind tunnel experiments with the purpose of examining the rate of comminution during transport, role of bed roughness, influence of humidity, system dynamics, and proportionate amount of dust production. The playa sediment selected for testing was obtained from Owens Lake in California, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of the Champy technique, typically used for isolated mandibular angle fractures, to treat comminuted fractures as well.
  • Results show that while patients without alveolar bone defects had successful healing, those with defects and incomplete soft tissue closure faced complications like intraoral fistulas.
  • The conclusion confirms that the Champy technique is effective for comminuted fractures, but issues with soft tissue closure can delay healing.
