Spinal anaesthesia is considered an effective and safe method for providing pain relief during procedures below the waist. However, in a small subset of patients, life-threatening vasovagal reactions may develop leading to severe bradycardia and hypotension or ultimately asystole and complete circulatory collapse. Early recognition and prompt treatment of this condition can be lifesaving as illustrated in this case report where the patient developed asystole for ten seconds shortly after placing the spinal anaesthetic.

Animal thermoregulation may have significant costs and compete directly or indirectly with other energetically demanding processes, such as immune function. Although the subterranean environment is characterized by thermally-stable conditions, small changes in ambient temperature could be critical in shaping immunity. However, little is known about the effects of ambient temperature, in naturally varying ranges, on immunity of wild species.

This work presents the results of photophysical studies for a newly synthesized BF-based organoboron dye of D-A-D topology. The one- and two-photon properties of the dye are compared with the D-A parent compound and commercially available amyloid marker: methoxy-X04. We demonstrate that the new dye exhibits better optical properties upon binding to amyloids than methoxy-X04, including emission above 600 nm, higher values of 2PA cross section, broader excitation range and higher increment of emission intensity upon binding to amyloids.
