An unprecedented DDQ-mediated oxidative aromatization of 2-bezylidene-dihydrofurans yielding 2-alkenyl-furans is disclosed. Integration of this transformation with a prior Pd-catalyzed reaction of α-propargylic-β-ketoesters and (hetero)aryl halides into a one-pot cascade process opens a direct modular route to highly substituted 2-vinyl-furans. Experimental and computational studies reveal that the crucial step of the oxidative-aromatization involves facile hydride transfer from the dihydrofuran ring to the O-center of DDQ.

Dearomatizing Photocyclization and Oxidative Aromatization: Constructing Polycyclic Arenes from Styrenes.

The direct construction of polycyclic arenes through ring formation using simple building blocks is highly appealing but remains challenging in organic chemistry. In this study, we introduce an efficient cascade reaction that combines dearomatizing photocyclization with oxidative aromatization, driven by organophotocatalysis. Conducted under mild, transition-metal-free conditions, this reaction seamlessly converts styrene derivatives into a diverse array of functionalized polycyclic aromatic compounds with good yields and regioselectivity.

Robust dioxin-linked metallophthalocyanine tbo topology covalent organic frameworks and their photocatalytic properties.

Constructing 3D functional covalent organic frameworks (COFs) with both robust linkage and planar macrocycle building blocks still remains a challenge due to the difficulty in adjusting both the crystallinity and the dominant 2D structures. In addition, it is also challenging to selectively convert inert C(sp)-H bonds into value-added chemicals. Herein, robust 3D COFs, USTB-28-M (M=Co, Ni, Cu), have been polymerized from the nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction of -symmetric 2,3,6,7,14,15-hexahydroxyltriptycene with -symmetric hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (MPcF) under solvothermal conditions.

Under most conditions, 2,4-dihalopyrimidines undergo substitution reactions at C4. Here we report that Pd(II) precatalysts supported by bulky -heterocyclic carbene ligands uniquely effect C2-selective cross-coupling of 2,4-dichloropyrimidine with thiols. The regioselectivity of this reaction stands in stark contrast to ∼1500 previously reported Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings that favor C4 in the absence of other substituents on the pyrimidine ring.

Exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and tobacco smoke is widespread and linked to various adverse health outcomes. Their potential to disturb the neurological system has raised much concern, particularly among older adults. Thus, we conducted a case-control study to assess the associations between co-exposure to PAHs and nicotine, and the risk of cognitive impairment and oxidative stress in older adults.

The reaction of the diborabenzene (DBB) nickel(0) pogo-stick complex [(η-DBB)Ni(CO)] () with a large excess of [Ni(CO)] yields the dark green, unstable dinickel(0) complex [(η-DBB)Ni(μ-CO)Ni(CO)] (), which loses one CO ligand to yield the purple, bimetallic Ni half-sandwich complex [(η-DBB)Ni(μ-CO)(η-CO)] (). The addition of the chromium aminoborylene complex [(OC)Cr{BN(TMS)}] (TMS = trimethylsilyl) to does not result in the expected borylene transfer but in the formation of the black Ni-Cr complex [(η-DBB)Ni(μ-CO)Cr(CO)] (), alongside the dimeric iminoborane [(TMS)BN(TMS)] (), which results from the rearrangement of the released BN(TMS) aminoborylene moiety. Furthermore, the oxidative addition of methyl triflate (MeOTf) to leaves the (η-DBB)Ni moiety intact and provides the ionic Ni half-sandwich complex [(η-DBB)NiMe(CO)]OTf (), while reaction with pentaphenylborole (PPB) yields the unique, dark-blue, unsymmetrical sandwich complex [(η-DBB)Ni(μ-CO)(η-PPB)] ().
