This study explores the resistome and bacterial diversity of two small lakes in the Southern Pantanal, one in Aquidauana sub-region, close to a farm, and one in Abobral sub-region, an environmentally preserved area. metagenomic sequencing data from water column samples collected near and far from the floating macrophyte were used. The Abobral small lake exhibited the highest diversity and abundance of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), antibiotic resistance classes (ARGCs), phylum, and genus. RPOB2 and its resistance class, multidrug resistance, were the most abundant ARG and ARGC, respectively. Pseudomonadota was the dominant phylum across all sites, and was the most abundant genus considering all sites.

Brazil, one of the world's largest agricultural producers and consumers of pesticides, has expanded its agricultural area in the southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul, intensifying environmental contamination and increasing the vulnerability of indigenous populations. This research assessed the presence of pesticides in the waters of two indigenous communities in MS, Retomada Guyraroká and Aldeia Jaguapiru. Between 2021 and 2022, three sampling campaigns of surface, supply, and rainwater were conducted, considering the agricultural calendar.

The present study investigated the levels of As, Ag, Al, Ba, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, Mn, Pb, Se, and Zn in muscle samples of six fish species (Pygocentrus nattereri, Serrasalmus marginatus, Mylossoma duriventre, Leporinus friderici, Pimelodus argenteus, and P. pantaneiro) highly consumed by local riverine and non-resident people in middle Miranda River, southern Brazilian Pantanal. Significant differences were detected for Ba, Fe, Mn, and Zn levels among the analyzed species.
