α,α-trehalose is a well-known sugar that plays a key role in establishing tolerance to environmental stresses in many organisms, except unicellular eukaryotes. However, almost nothing is known about α,β-trehalose, including their synthesis, function, and even presence in living organisms. In this study, we identified α,β-trehalose in the resting cyst, a dormancy cell form characterized by extreme tolerance to environmental stresses, of the ciliated protist Colpoda cucullus, using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and a proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H NMR). Gene expression analysis revealed that the expression of trehalose-6-phosphate synthase (TPS), glycosyltransferase (GT), alpha-amylase (AMY), and trehalose transporter 1 (TRET1), were up-regulated in encystment, while the expression of α-glucosidase 2 (AG2) and trehalase (TREH) was up-regulated in excystment. These results suggest that α,β-trehalose is synthesized during encystment process, while and contributes to extreme tolerances to environmental stressors, stored carbohydrates, and energy reserve during resting cyst and/or during excystment.

Purpose: This study explores the effects of anthracycline chemotherapy (AC) on breast cancer patients, focusing on changes in body composition, advanced echocardiographic parameters at rest and during exercise, and biomarkers; and subsequently assesses whether these parameters are associated with impaired cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF).

Methods: In this prospective study, we evaluated women with early-stage breast cancer undergoing AC at three visits: before AC, 1 month after, and 6 months post-AC.

Results: The study included 32 women with breast cancer, with functional disability increasing from 9.

Introduction: The Retzius-sparing technique for prostate cancer has shown favorable continence recovery outcomes. Magnetic resonance imaging after Retzius-sparing showed that the bladder anterior wall is widely connected to the abdominal wall, which contributes to urinary continence. We aimed to evaluate whether the Peritoneal Fixation technique, which involves suturing the anterior bladder wall onto the abdominal wall above the pubic bone, contributes to the recovery of urinary continence.

Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, School of Public Health, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong 511436, P.R. China.

The oncogenic and tumor suppressor roles of lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 in multiple cancers suggest its complexity in modulating cancer progression. The expression and promoter methylation level of lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was investigated through data mining from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus and its significance in prognosis and immunity was explored. lnc-MAPKAPK5-AS1 was co-expressed with its protein-coding gene MAPKAPK5 in HCC and exhibited upregulation in HCC tissues as a result of hypomethylation of its promoter region.

Introduction: Ultraviolet-induced fluorescence dermoscopy (UVF dermoscopy) is a novel diagnostic technique for identifying and diagnosing numerous skin tumors, inflammatory dermatoses, and infectious diseases. The ultraviolet (UV) band has a wavelength ranging from 10 to 400 nm. When intense UV radiation with shorter wavelengths strikes a target chromophore, visible light (VL) with a longer wavelength and lower energy is produced in the skin.

Background: The prognosis for urothelial carcinoma remains poor, with limited therapeutic options, emphasizing the need for further research into targeted therapies. The prognostic and predictive significance of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) expression in urothelial carcinoma remains unclear, with previous studies reporting conflicting results.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of advanced urothelial carcinoma cases diagnosed between January 2017 and December 2022.
