Objective: In order to provide a more accurate and effective basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment, patients with cognitive dysfunction after acute ischemic stroke (AIS) were evaluated and their influencing factors were analyzed.

Methods: A rigorous and systematic logistic regression analysis was conducted to comprehensively investigate the various influencing factors that contribute to cognitive dysfunction.

Results: Among them, the sex granulocyte/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level, and C-reactive protein (CRP) were also higher than those in the control group ( < 0.05). The scores of memory, orientation, visual and spatial function, abstract thinking and language in the control group were higher than those in the experimental group ( < 0.05). The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that history of diabetes mellitus, high NLR, high LDL-C, high CRP, smoking and temporal lobe infarction were risk factors for cognitive dysfunction after AIS, while elevated BMI and love of exercise were protective factors for cognitive dysfunction after AIS.

Conclusion: Patients with cognitive dysfunction had the highest incidence of temporal lobe infarction, and they scored lower than the control group on memory, orientation, visual and spatial function, abstract thinking, and language function. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a history of diabetes mellitus, high NLR, high LDL-C, high CRP, smoking, and temporal lobe infarction were independent risk factors for cognitive dysfunction after acute ischemic stroke, while elevated BMI and a love of exercise were protective factors for cognitive dysfunction after acute ischemic stroke.

Background: Genetic studies indicate a causal role for microglia, the innate immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS), in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Despite the progress made in identifying genetic risk factors, such as CD33, and underlying molecular changes, there are currently limited treatment options for AD. Based on the immune-inhibitory function of CD33, we hypothesize that inhibition of CD33 activation may reverse microglial suppression and restore their ability to resolve inflammatory processes and mitigate pathogenic amyloid plaques, which may be neuroprotective.

Background: The Apolipoprotein E4 isoform (ApoE4), encoded by the APOE gene, stands out as the most influential genetic factor in late-onset Alzheimer's disease (LOAD). The ApoE4 isoform contributes to metabolic and neuropathological abnormalities during brain aging, with a strong correlation observed in APOE4-positive Alzheimer's disease cases between phosphorylated tau burden and amyloid deposition. Despite compelling evidence of APOE-mediated neuroinflammation influencing the progression of tau-mediated neurodegeneration, the molecular mechanisms underlying these phenomena remain largely unknown.

Sex hormones regulate gut function and mucosal immunity; however, their specific effects on the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) in the rectum of mammals remain unclear. Here, we aimed to investigate the influence of sex on MALT in the rectum of mammals by focusing on the rectal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (RMALTs) of C57BL/6NCrSIc mice. Histological analysis revealed that RMALTs were predominantly located in the lamina propria and submucosa of the rectal mucosa, with a significant sex-related difference in the distance from the anorectal junction to the first appearance of the RMALT.

Background: Lecanemab is a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody binding with high affinity to protofibrils of amyloid-beta (Aβ) protein. In clinical studies, lecanemab has been shown to reduce markers of amyloid in early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease (AD) and slow decline on clinical endpoints of cognition and function. Herein, a modeling approach was used to correlate amyloid reduction with change in rate of AD progression.
