Background: The arterial stiffening is attributed to the intrinsic structural stiffening and/or load-dependent stiffening by increased blood pressure (BP). The respective lifetime alterations and major determinants of the two components with normal aging are not clear.
Methods: A total of 3053 healthy adults (1922 women) aged 18-79 years were enrolled.

Synovial sarcoma is a rare malignant mesenchymal neoplasm primarily affecting adolescents and young adults, and it typically arises from deep soft tissues near large joints. Although commonly found in extremities, it can occur in various anatomic locations. We present a rare case of a 29-year-old man with primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma manifesting as a cystic mass masquerading as a lung hydatid cyst.

A 26-year-old man with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy and an automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD) sustained a gunshot injury to the left side of his chest wall, resulting in direct impact of the bullet into the AICD generator. The injury resulted in a dent in the outer case along with damage to the generator battery and device deactivation. There was no associated intrathoracic injury.

Central venous occlusions are common in the population of dialysis patients and develop as a result of arteriovenous access. Whereas these patients most commonly present with edema and varicosities, a rare presentation is esophageal varices. Here we present the case of a young man with life-threatening esophageal hemorrhage as a result of central venous occlusions, successfully treated with an azygos vein to right atrial bypass.
