Introduction: Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is a master regulator of allergic inflammation against pathogens at barrier surfaces of the lung, skin, and gut. However, aberrant TSLP activity is implicated in various allergic, chronic inflammation and autoimmune diseases and cancers. Patients with severe eosinophilic asthma (SEA) can benefit from biologic therapy but some subjects may present an immune-mediated side effect. These patients will not meet the treatment goals and might have an increased risk of exacerbations. Monitoring these patients by determining blood eosinophil (BE) levels could be one of the tools that may allow a follow-up to prevent a worsening of asthma or exacerbations.

Background: Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES) is a non-IgE-mediated allergy without known biomarkers. We aimed to compare fecal biomarkers related to gut inflammation and immunity in children with FPIES, with resolved FPIES (tolerant), and in matched controls.

Methods: Stools were collected from FPIES children on elimination diet, before and after an oral food challenge (OFC) performed to assess their natural tolerance, at the end of a follow-up in tolerant FPIES children, and in matched controls (1:1 ratio).

There are many causes of peripheral blood eosinophilia (PBE), including allergic, infectious, rheumatic, and hematologic disorders. Solid tumor cancers, such as lung cancer, can also cause PBE, and although rare, being diagnosed with PBE in this way is associated with a worse prognosis than for lung cancer patients without PBE. Additionally, some cancer patients develop PBE when receiving treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).
