Introduction: Gastropod hemocyanins are potent immunostimulants in mammals, a trait associated with their large molecular size and unusual glycosylation patterns. While the hemocyanin from the marine snail keyhole limpet (KLH), has been widely studied and successfully employed as a carrier/adjuvant in several immunological applications, as well as a non-specific immunostimulant for bladder cancer treatment, few other gastropod hemocyanins have been biochemically and immunologically characterized. In this work, we investigated the immunogenic properties of the hemocyanin from (PcH), an invasive south American freshwater snail.

Through morphological and molecular studies, the natural life cycle of Dollfus, 1960 (Cestoda: Taeniidae) from Argentine Patagonia is elucidated, involving subterranean rodents (Ctenomyidae) as intermediate hosts, and the Andean fox (Canidae) as definitive host. Metacestodes (mono- and polycephalic fimbriocerci) were found mainly in the peritoneal cavity of , and the strobilate adult in the intestine of . Correspondence between metacestodes and strobilate adults was based primarily on number, size and shape of rostellar hooks: 45-53 hooks alternated in two rows, small hooks 88-180 μm long and large hooks 230-280 μm long, with the characteristic shape described in the two main description of the species, both that of the metacestode (original description) and that of the strobilate adult (obtained experimentally).

Significance: In the last years, time-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy (TD-NIRS) has gained increasing interest as a tool for studying tissue spectroscopy with commercial devices. Although it provides much more information than its continuous wave counterpart, accurate models interpreting the measured raw data in real time are still lacking.
Aim: We introduce an analytical model that can be integrated and used in TD-NIRS data processing software and toolkits in real time.

Many Plasmodium genes remain uncharacterized due to low genetic tractability. Previous large-scale knockout screens have only been able to target about half of the genome in the more genetically tractable rodent malaria parasite Plasmodium berghei. To overcome this limitation, we have developed a scalable CRISPR system called P.

The assessment of research performance is widely seen as a vital tool in upholding the highest standards of quality, with selection and competition believed to drive progress. Academic institutions need to take critical decisions on hiring and promotion, while facing external pressure by also being subject to research assessment. Here we present an outlook on research assessment for career progression with specific focus on promotion to full professorship, based on 314 policies from 190 academic institutions and 218 policies from 58 government agencies, covering 32 countries in the Global North and 89 countries in the Global South.
