Peritonitis caused by dematiaceous molds is uncommon but poses a significant threat to patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD), leading to high mortality and morbidity. This report highlights three cases of peritonitis caused by three distinct species of ( and ), initially unidentified through conventional culture methods. The nucleotide sequences of internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS), 18S nuclear ribosomal small subunit (SSU), and 28S nuclear ribosomal large subunit (LSU) of the ribosomal DNA gene correctly identified the isolates. Despite early catheter removal and administration of appropriate antifungal medications, all patients experienced fatal outcomes. DNA barcoding emerges as a valuable tool for accurately diagnosing species within the genus of pathogenic microbes, aiding in identifying the root causes of infections. It emphasizes the importance of strict adherence to aseptic techniques during PD exchanges to prevent peritonitis caused by plant-borne pathogens.

is an alpha-hemolytic gram-positive catalase-negative coccus that typically causes urinary tract infections. It has been rarely implicated in other invasive infections such as endocarditis, bacteremia, peritonitis, meningitis, and vertebral osteomyelitis. There are approximately 50 reported cases of infective endocarditis in literature.

The main protease (M) is a pivotal target in the life cycle of feline coronavirus (FCoV), which causes a high mortality feline disease, feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Virtual screening was performed against the feline coronavirus M to find active compounds with low toxicity from a library of natural products. Eighty-six compounds were selected by using the rank of docking score and binding pose analysis.

Background: Gastric cancer peritoneal metastasis lacks effective predictive indices. This article retrospectively explored predictive values of DNA ploidy, stroma, and nucleotyping in gastric cancer peritoneal metastasis.
Methods: A comprehensive analysis was conducted on specimens obtained from 80 gastric cancer patients who underwent gastric resection at the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital.

Background: The high prevalence and prolonged duration of inflow pain and drain pain experienced by peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients following PD catheter implantation impact their quality of life. However, there is limited data on the frequency and predisposing factors of these pains in the Chinese population undergoing peritoneal dialysis.
Methods: This study encompassed individuals who underwent peritoneal dialysis catheter implantation at our institution from September 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a crucial component in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of peritoneal metastasis (PM), where they contribute to tumor progression and metastasis via secretion of interleukin-6 (IL-6). Here, we investigated the role of IL-6 in PM of gastric cancer (GC) and assessed whether anti-IL-6 receptor antibody (anti-IL-6R Ab) could inhibit PM of GC. We conducted immunohistochemical analysis of IL-6 and α-smooth muscle (α-SMA) expressions in clinical samples of GC and PM, and investigated the interactions between CAFs and GC cells in vitro.
