Regulating interfacial active sites to improve peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation efficiency is a hot topic in the heterogeneous catalysis field. In this study, we develop an inverted loading strategy to engineer asymmetric Mn-O-Ce sites for PMS activation. MnO@CeO prepared by loading CeO nanoparticles onto MnO nanorods exhibits the highest catalytic activity and stability, which is due to the formation of more oxygen vacancies (O) at the Mn-O-Ce sites, and the surface CeO layer effectively inhibits corrosion by preventing the loss of manganese ion active species into the solution. In situ characterizations and density functional theory (DFT) studies have revealed effective bimetallic redox cycles at asymmetric Mn-O-Ce active sites, which promote surface charge transfer, enhance the adsorption reaction activity of active species toward pollutants, and favor PMS activation to generate (•OH, SO, O and O) active species. This study provides a brand-new perspective for engineering the interfacial behavior of PMS activation.

Background: Acetyl phosphate (AcP) is a microbial intermediate involved in the central bacterial metabolism. In bacteria, it also functions as a donor of acetyl and phosphoryl groups in the nonenzymatic protein acetylation and signal transduction. In host, AcP was detected as an intermediate of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, and its appearance in the blood was considered as an indication of mitochondrial breakdown.

The present investigation focused on the photocatalytic degradation of aqueous atrazine over g-CN/TiO/NiFeO composite in the presence of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) under visible light irradiation. The ternary photocatalyst was synthesized and characterized using XRD, FTIR, nitrogen sorption, SEM, UV-Vis, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. This catalyst exhibited full absorption in the visible spectrum at 815 nm and a high specific surface area of 105 m/g.

Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) are energy-efficient methods for generating activated radicals like HO and SO, which enable the degradation of difficult-to-mineralize chlorinated organic compounds. This study explored the catalytic activity and reaction mechanism of EAOPs under a dual strategy involving non-metal doped CN (X@CN (X = O, F, Si)) and a heterostructured build(X@CN/TiCT) using first principles calculation. The non-metal doping and the heterojunction construction can make HO and PMS spontaneously adsorb (E< 0), with negative Gibbs free energy for their oxidation to HO and SO, significantly enhancing catalytic activity.

As emerging contaminants, antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARBs) and antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) pose a serious threat to human health and ecological security. Here, a reduced graphene oxide and g-CN co-doped copper ferrite (rGO-CNCF) were synthesized. The composite material was characterized using XRD, FTIR, XPS, SEM-EDS, TEM, and DRS analysis methods, and a visible-light-assisted rGO-CNCF-activated PMS system was constructed for the removal of ARB and ARGs in water.

Phenylarsonic acid (PAA) compounds, widely used in animal husbandry, pose a considerable environmental threat owing to their potential transformation into toxic inorganic arsenic species. To efficiently decontaminate PAA and adsorb secondary As(V), a hybrid CuFeO-modified carbon nanotube (CuFeO-CNT) filter was developed in this study. The hybrid CuFeO-CNT filter functioned as an effective catalyst, convective filtration medium, electrode, and adsorbent.
