In a recent journal article, Chen et al. identified a germ cell-specific cofactor, STYXL1, associated with male fertility function. Deletion of STYXL1 prevents the LEGO player CCT complex from properly folding key microtubule proteins of the sperm flagellum, which affects sperm motility and male fertility function.

Introduction: Klinefelter syndrome (KS) is a genetic condition characterised by the presence of an extra X chromosome in males (47,XXY). KS is associated with various phenotypic characteristics in adult life, including infertility, hypogonadism and increased risk of type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. Additionally, individuals with KS often experience mental health challenges and functional impairments that significantly impact their quality of life.

Objective: Despite guidelines indicating no contraindications for contraceptives in women with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), this population shows increased voluntary childlessness and lower contraceptive use. Knowledge gaps among healthcare providers on IBD's impact on fertility and contraception may drive these trends. This survey assessed knowledge discrepancies among IBD patients, gastroenterologists (GEs), and women's healthcare providers (WHPs) regarding fertility and contraception.

Cryopreservation is a fundamental technique for preserving the structural and functional integrity of biological material, particularly for the conservation of genetic resources in avian species. Since its development in the 1940s, this technology has advanced significantly, although challenges persist, primarily due to the unique morphology of avian sperm, which complicates cryoprotectant penetration and increases the risk of structural damage. Overcoming these challenges is crucial for improving semen preservation, supporting the sustainability of avian species, and contributing to conservation efforts.

Do weakly deleterious mutations contribute to the reproductive and health challenges of bottlenecked species? Peers et al. (2025) investigated the role of prolonged low effective population size in cheetahs (Acinonyx jubatus) and its implications in the accumulation of pseudogenes. They identified 65 cheetah-specific premature termination codons, four of which (DEFB116, ARL13A, CFAP119, and NT5DC4) were linked to male fertility and immune deficiencies.

Misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines has hampered their uptake worldwide. In Ghana, a belief that COVID-19 vaccines affect fertility is prevalent and difficult to counter. UNICEF Ghana co-produced a context-driven, behavioral science-based audio drama ('A shot of love') that aimed to debunk this misinformation narrative.
