The detection of volatile amines is necessary due to the serious toxicity hazards they pose to human skin, respiratory systems, and nervous systems. However, traditional amines detection methods require bulky equipment, high costs, and complex measurements. Herein, we report a new simple, rapid, convenient, and visual method for the detection of volatile amines based on the gas-solid reactions of tetrachloro-p-benzoquinone (TCBQ) and volatile amines. The gas-solid reactions of TCBQ with a variety of volatile amines showed a visually distinct color in a time-dependent manner. Moreover, TCBQ can be easily fabricated into simple and flexible rapid test strips for detecting and distinguishing -propylamine from other volatile amines, including ethylamine, -butyamine, -pentamine, -butyamine and dimethylamine, in less than 3 s without any equipment assistance.

Food freshness monitoring and volatile amine detection are key to food safety. In this study, we demonstrated the applicability of mixed-valence rhenium oxide quantum dots (MV-ReOQDs), synthesized via the hydrothermal reaction of α-cyclodextrin and rhenium ion precursors, in triethylamine (TEA) sensing. Spectroscopic correlation techniques showed that the developed MV-ReOQDs possessed mixed-valent rhenium, α-cyclodextrin as capped ligand, partially carbonized surface, and amorphous phase structure.

Enzyme stability can be measured in a number of ways, including melting temperature, activity retention, and size analysis. However, these measurements are often conducted in an idealized storage buffer and not in the relevant enzymatic reaction media. Particularly for reactions that occur in alkaline, volatile, and high ionic strength media, typical analyses using differential scanning calorimetry, light scattering, and sodium dodecyl-sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis are not satisfactory to track the stability of these enzymes.

BF, volatile amines (VOAs), and biogenic amines (BAs) are the key indicators in chemical reaction catalysis and food quality monitoring. In this study, we present two types of fluorescent sensors, a hydrazone ligand (HL)-based fluorescent sensor for BF detection and a novel sensor array using six boron difluoride (BF) hydrazone complexes (BFHs) for monitoring VOAs and BAs. Spectral research indicates that the interaction mechanism between the HLs and BF is based on intramolecular charge transfer (ICT).
