Background: As individuals age, the prevalence of osteoarthritis tends to increase gradually. α-Klotho is a hormone renowned for its anti-aging properties. However, the precise role of serum α-Klotho in osteoarthritis is still not fully comprehended.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study utilizing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 2007 to 2016. Serum α-Klotho levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Osteoarthritis was assessed through self-reported questionnaires. Through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, smooth curve fitting, threshold effect analysis, and subgroup analyses, we delved into the potential association between them.

Results: The study encompassed a cohort of 10,265 participants. In fully adjusted models of multivariate logistic regression analysis, we identified a negative correlation between serum ln α-Klotho and OA (OR = 0.77, 95% CI: 0.65-0.91, p = 0.003). When stratifying serum α-Klotho levels into tertiles, individuals in the highest tertile exhibited a 26% reduced risk of OA compared to those in the lowest tertile (OR = 0.84, 95% CI: 0.73-0.97, p = 0.014). Subsequent analyses indicated a linearly negative association. In subgroup analyses, we explored the relationship between serum ln α-Klotho and osteoarthritis across diverse populations, revealing the persistence of this association in the majority of subgroups.

Conclusion: Serum α-Klotho levels exhibit a significant negative linear correlation with the prevalence of osteoarthritis in middle-aged and elderly populations in the United States.

Objectives: To identify if chemotherapeutic drugs in the CHOP-based protocol led to an increase in renal parameters in dogs with lymphoma during therapy and investigate whether factors such as prednisolone use or age affected this result.

Methods: Data were obtained retrospectively from private referral practice records of dogs diagnosed with lymphoma receiving a CHOP-based chemotherapy protocol between 2015 and 2019. Dogs included received a CHOP-based protocol as their first treatment, received four full cycles and were in remission at the end of the protocol.

Background And Aims: Maternal obesity increases the risk of the paediatric form of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), affecting up to 30% of youth, but the developmental origins remain poorly understood.

Methods: Using a Japanese macaque model, we investigated the impact of maternal Western-style diet (mWSD) or chow diet followed by postweaning WSD (pwWSD) or chow diet focusing on bile acid (BA) homeostasis and hepatic fibrosis in livers from third-trimester fetuses and 3-year-old juvenile offspring.

Results: Juveniles exposed to mWSD had increased hepatic collagen I/III content and stellate cell activation in portal regions.

Objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a diverse condition with an unknown cause. The precise mechanism underlying ovulatory abnormalities in PCOS remains unclear. It is widely believed that malfunction of granulosa cells is the primary factor contributing to aberrant follicular formation in PCOS.

Background: Osteoporosis (OP) frequently occurs in post-menopausal women, increasing the risk of fracture. Early screening OP could improve the prevention of fractures. This study focused on the significance of miR-208a-3p in diagnosing OP and development regulation, aiming to explore a novel biomarker and therapeutic target for OP.

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a heterogeneous disease composed of different endotypes. It is important to develop useful biomarkers for endotyping UC; however, available biomarkers are insufficient. We have already established that periostin is a surrogate biomarker of type 2 inflammation.
