Visible-light-induced organophotocatalyzed ring-opening followed by remote Giese addition of tertiary cycloalkanols with β-silylmethylene malonates has been developed under mild reaction conditions for the synthesis of organosilicon compounds, bearing a ketone group distally substituted with a silyl group with an additional dialkyl malonate functional handle in moderate to good yields (34-72%). The protocol also worked well with diverse Michael acceptors, such as alkylidene/benzylidene malonates, trifluoro methylidene malonate, benzylidene malononitrile, α-cyano-enone, and α-cyano vinyl sulfone, and delivered desired valuable distally functionalized ketones. To showcase the potential of the method, various synthetic transformations of the obtained product were also demonstrated.

Electroconductive Bionanocomposites from Black Soldier Fly Proteins for Green Flexible Electronics.

ACS Sustain Chem Eng

Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "G. Natta", Politecnico di Milano, Via Mancinelli 7, 20131 Milano, Italy.

Printed and flexible electronics hold the potential to revolutionize the world of electronic devices. A primary focus today is their circularity, which can be achieved by using biobased materials. In this study, electrically conductive bionanocomposite materials suitable for flexible electronics were fabricated using proteins from the black soldier fly (BSF, ).

Misfolded α-synuclein (αSyn) is the hallmark of α-synucleinopathies such as Parkinson's disease (PD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and multiple system atrophy (MSA). While seed amplification assays (SAA) have demonstrated ultrasensitive detection of misfolded αSyn, they have been primarily used reliably to provide binary (positive/negative) results for diagnostic purposes. We developed an SAA with enhanced specificity for Lewy-fold α-synucleinopathies and introduced a quantifiable measure correlating with clinical severity.

Visible-light-mediated radical difunctionalization of alkenes with aromatic aldehydes.

We have developed a visible-light-mediated three-component tandem reaction of aromatic aldehydes with acrylates using a Hantzsch ester as the hydrogen atom transfer reagent, generating diethyl pentanedioate products in a one-pot synthesis. The reaction facilitates direct formation of acyl groups from the corresponding aldehydes, which are subsequently coupled successively to two molecules of acrylate in a Giese addition.

Evolution of social contacts patterns in France over the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic: results from the SocialCov survey.

BMC Infect Dis

February 2025

Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases Unit, Institut Pasteur, Université Paris Cité, U1332 INSERM, UMR2000 CNRS, Paris, France.

Background: Non-pharmaceutical measures such as lockdowns, curfews and place closures were implemented in France during 2020-2022 to reduce contacts in the population, to limit the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and reduce COVID-19 healthcare burden. Individuals also changed their behaviours as a response to the pandemic. Here, we present the results of the SocialCov survey that characterise the evolution of contacts in France between December 2020 and May 2022 to better understand the short and long term impact of these interventions on social mixing.

Herein, we report a novel photocatalytic tandem Ueno-Stork cyclization/intermolecular Giese addition sequence for the stereoselective difunctionalization of allylic alcohols. This reaction avoids the use of toxic reagents and complicated protocols typically required under classical Ueno-Stork conditions. Furthermore, the reaction system demonstrated good stereoselectivity with both cyclic and linear allylic alcohols.
