Three undescribed solalodine-type glycoalkaloids, named solanigrinoside A-C (1-3), and six known compounds (4-9) were isolated from the whole plants of Solanum nigrum. Their structures were elucidated based on analysis of HR-ESI-MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR spectral data, and comparison with those reported in literatures. The solanigrinoside A-C (1-3), solasodine (4), and 3-acetoxysolasodine (5) exhibited cytotoxic effects against LU-1, Hep-G2, and MCF-7 cells with IC values in range from 4.6 μM to 56.2 μM. Compound 2 showed the significant cytotoxic activity with corresponding IC values of 5.7 μM, 7.9 μM, and 4.6 μM, respectively.

The wild edible plants offer a valuable resource for food and human nutrition. The current study aimed to analyze the proximate composition and ethno-medicinal profiles of twenty selected wild edible plants from the Malakand District, Pakistan. The proximate composition (moisture, ash, crude protein, crude fat, and dietary fiber) was analyzed following Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) protocols.

Cadmium (Cd) contamination presents a serious challenges for sustainable agriculture. This study evaluated the combined impact of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) inoculation and intercropping with Solanum nigrum on soil microbial diversity, enzyme activity, and environmental factors in soybean cultivation under high Cd stress. The combined treatment effectively reduced bioavailable Cd in soil, with the acid-soluble Cd fraction at 19.

Unlabelled: Liv-52, an herbal formulation consisting of seven distinct plants and Mandur Bhasma, is recognized for its hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. To investigate the pharmacological potential of each phytochemical from these plants, we conducted ADMET analysis, molecular docking, and molecular dynamic simulations to identify potent molecules capable of inhibiting the interaction between Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and Cysteine aspartyl protease 3 (Caspase-3/CASP3). In our study, we have used molecular docking of all the compounds against AFP and filtered them on the basis of ADME properties.

Lead (Pb) rebound in the root-zone of plants is a primary risk associated with rhizosphere effect in phosphorus (P)-amended vegetated soils. Herein, we investigated the differential effects of root exudates (RE) from Solanum nigrum L. on Pb availability under conditions with variable P mineral forms.

Article Synopsis
  • Conventional chemotherapy struggles with drug resistance and side effects in colorectal cancer (CRC), prompting research into natural compounds like Ursolic acid (UA) and Solasodine (Sol) that show promise in anti-tumor activity.
  • This study focused on the synergy between UA and Sol in fighting CRC by triggering cell death (apoptosis) and preventing the spread (metastasis) of cancer through specific cellular pathways.
  • Results indicated that combining UA and Sol effectively reduced CRC cell viability and promoted cancer cell death by enhancing gene expression related to apoptosis and autophagy, while also inhibiting factors that facilitate cancer spread.
