Temperature increases mediated through climate change threaten the survival of species. It is of foremost importance to engage citizens and future generations in understanding the mechanisms through which temperatures impose their effects. For educators, this is not straightforward, as tools for examining the impact of temperature over the lifetime of an animal are prohibitively expensive. At the same time, environmental educators need guidance on the appropriate study systems to use with a balance between the species having an obvious response and ensuring the outcomes are ethical and sustainable. In our study, we created and tested a cost-effective experiment meant to be used for environmental education purposes. More specifically, we tested the sensitivity of the painted lady butterfly to temperature variations using a homemade incubator. We describe the design of this experiment and report findings on survival rate, morphological variations, development time of various stages and wingspan of adults across a range of biologically relevant temperatures. The information provided gives educators options for testing a variety of hypotheses with regards to the impacts of temperature using an affordable and flexible set-up. Furthermore, the findings can be used by students to develop an understanding of the ramifications of the butterflies' responses in an ecological context.

The surface of the eye is constantly exposed to the external environment and is affected by atmospheric conditions and air pollution, and dry eye is a typical ocular surface disease. The aim of this study is to determine whether there are seasonal differences in the number of dry eye operations in Japan and to investigate whether meteorological conditions and air pollutants are related to. The operations were examined using the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups of Japan (NDB) database from fiscal years 2019 to 2021.

Based on the engineering example of Linsheng coal mine, this paper uses TF1M3D computer simulation platform to systematically analyze the process of smoke flow spreading and air flow disorder disaster from the perspective of the whole mine network, and puts forward corresponding plans and measures. A small scale similar experiment was carried out to study the updraft flow fire in the mine. Through the analysis of the collected experimental data, the variation law of the air volume of the fire source in the main air path, side branch road and total air path with different air volume and the variation characteristics of the temperature at the monitoring point with time were obtained under different air volume conditions, and the critical air volume was fitted as 1.

This research examines the impact of temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed on the electricity demand. It presents a unique method that combines an Enhanced Inception-V4 model with an Improved Osprey Optimizer to analyze weather-related factors. The combined model, which has been validated from 2003 to 2023, surpasses traditional forecasting techniques and significantly improves prediction accuracy.

Climate change and human activities are the primary drivers influencing changes in runoff dynamics. However, current understanding of future hydrological processes under scenarios of gradual climate change and escalating human activities remains uncertain, particularly in tropical regions affected by deforestation. Based on this, we employed the SWAT model coupled with the near future (2021-2040) and middle future (2041-2060) global climate models (GCMs) under four shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP1-2.

pH changes occur during bodily lesions, presenting an opportunity for leveraging pH-responsive delivery systems as signals for a targeted response. This review explores the design and application of pH-responsive delivery systems based on natural polysaccharides for the controlled release of bioactives. The article examines the development of diverse delivery carriers, including nanoparticles, nanofibers, nanogels, core-shell carriers, hydrogels, emulsions as well as liposomes and their capacity to respond to pH variations, enabling the precise and targeted delivery of bioactives within the human body.
