Background: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has gained increasing popularity worldwide, yet concerns persist regarding the development of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) postoperatively.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of technical aspects of LSG, specifically bougie size and distance from the pylorus to resection line edge, on the risk of developing symptomatic GERD within 2years following surgery.

Setting: Data from the Scandinavian Obesity Surgery Registry (SOReg) and the National Prescribed Drug Register were utilized for this analysis.

Article Synopsis
  • The EMPRISE study evaluated empagliflozin's effectiveness in reducing various health risks (including all-cause mortality and hospitalization for heart failure) compared to DPP-4 inhibitors in patients with type 2 diabetes across four Nordic countries.
  • Using a noninterventional, multicountry cohort design and propensity score matching, the study analyzed data from 43,695 patients and employed Cox proportional hazards regression for risk assessment.
  • Results indicated that patients starting empagliflozin had a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality, hospitalization for heart failure, cardiovascular mortality, and end-stage renal disease, though no significant differences were found for stroke or myocardial infarction.

Introduction: The number of adolescents seeking professional help for depression is increasing and, despite advances in treatment, large unmet treatment needs remain. In the current protocol, we describe the design and methodology of a randomised controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the clinical efficacy of two forms of internet-delivered behavioural activation (I-BA), with and without therapist support, in reducing depressive symptoms, compared with treatment as usual (TAU). Secondary objectives include examining the 12-month maintenance of the treatment effects and conducting a health economic evaluation of the interventions.

Background: In 2023, the first evidence-based classification for recurrent weight gain (RWG) after metabolic and bariatric surgery was introduced. It uses early and late follow-up weight loss benchmarks based on standard deviations (SD) of percentage total weight loss(%TWL) results from the large Dutch Audit for Treatment of Obesity (DATO) registry (n > 18,000). We aimed to validate this classification and confirm its clinical relevance with an external cohort.
