Background: To provide a new non-invasive method for the differentiation of diabetic nephropathy (DN) from non-diabetic renal disease (NDRD) by assessing retinal microstructure using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).
Methods: OCTA parameters were recorded and their relationship with DN was analysed. A differential diagnosis regression model for DN was established, and the diagnostic efficiency was evaluated.
Results: Based on the pathological results of renal biopsy, 31 DN patients and 35 NDRD patients were included. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that DN was independently associated with the following parameters: 15.3 mm ≤ vessel density (VD) full < 17.369 mm (odds ratio [OR]=8.523; 95% confidence interval [CI]=1.387-52.352; P = 0.021), VD full < 15.3 mm (OR=8.202; 95% CI=1.110-60.623; P = 0.039), DM duration > 60 months (OR=7.588; 95% CI=1.569-36.692; P = 0.012), and estimated glomerular filtration rate < 60 mL/min/1.73 m (OR=24.484; 95% CI=4.308-139.142; P < 0.001). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.911, indicating a high diagnostic efficiency.
Conclusions: VD full < 17.369 mm, DM duration > 60 months, and eGFR < 60 mL/min/1.73 m may indicate the presence of DN. OCTA may be an effective non-invasive method for identifying DN and NDRD.

Polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) measures the polarization state of backscattered light from tissues and provides valuable insights into the birefringence properties of biological tissues. Contrastive unpaired translation (CUT) was used in this study to generate a synthetic PS-OCT image from a single OCT image. The challenges related to extensive data requirements relying on labeled datasets using only pixel-wise correlations that make it difficult to efficiently regenerate the periodic patterns observed in PS-OCT images were addressed.

Background: This study investigated the association between photoreceptor structural restoration and visual function outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for closed macular holes (MHs). Using adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy (AOSLO) and microperimetry, we aimed to provide a more detailed understanding of photoreceptor recovery and visual improvement in closed MHs.

Peripapillary pachychoroid syndrome (PPS) is a recently described condition, classified within the pachychoroid disease spectrum characterized by focal or diffuse thickening of the choroid due to dilation of choroidal vessels in the Haller's layer (pachyvessels), thinning of the choriocapillaris and the Sattler's layer, and accompanied by increased choroidal permeability and damage to the retinal pigment epithelium. Unlike other pachychoroid diseases that involve changes in the central retina, PPS presents with choroidal thickening and intra- or subretinal fluid located nasally in the macular region, near the optic disc. This review aims to summarize and analyze current data on the clinical features, pathogenesis, and treatment options for PPS found in the literature.
