The efficiency of rigid perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells has reached 33.9%. However, there has been no report on flexible perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells due to the challenge of overcoming the poor light absorption of ultrathin silicon bottom cells while maintaining their mechanical flexibility. Herein, we report the first demonstration of the perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell based on flexible ultrathin silicon. We show that reducing the wafer thicknesses and feature sizes of the light-trapping textures can significantly improve the flexibility of silicon without sacrificing light utilization. In addition, the capping of the perovskite top cells can further improve the device's mechanical durability by shifting the neutral plane toward the silicon surface that is prone to fracture. Finally, the resulting ultrathin (∼30 µm) flexible perovskite/silicon tandem solar cell achieves a certified stabilized efficiency of 22.8% with an extremely high power-to-weight ratio of 3.12 W g. Moreover, the flexible tandems exhibit remarkable bending durability, maintaining 98.2% of their initial performance after 3000 bending cycles at a radius of only 1 cm.

Indium (In) reduction is a hot topic in transparent conductive oxide (TCO) research. So far, most strategies have been focused on reducing the layer thickness of In-based TCO films and exploring TCOs. However, no promising industrial solution has been obtained yet.

Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells (TSCs) are promising candidates for commercialization due to their outstanding power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). However, controlling the crystallization process and alleviating the phases/composition inhomogeneity represent a considerable challenge for perovskite layers grown on rough silicon substrates, ultimately limiting the efficiency and stability of TSC. Here, this study reports a "halide locking" strategy that simultaneously modulates the nucleation and crystal growth process of wide bandgap perovskites by introducing a multifunctional ammonium salt, thioacetylacetamide hydrochloride (TAACl), to bind with all types of cations and anions in the mixed halide perovskite precursor.

The instability of hybrid wide-bandgap (WBG) perovskite materials (with bandgap larger than 1.68 eV) still stands out as a major constraint for the commercialization of perovskite/silicon tandem photovoltaics, yet its correlation with the facet properties of WBG perovskites has not been revealed. Herein, we combine experiments and theoretical calculations to comprehensively understand the facet-dependent instability of WBG perovskites.

Aromatic linker-constructed self-assembled monolayers (Ar-SAMs) with enlarged dipole moment can modulate the work function of indium tin oxide (ITO), thereby improving hole extraction/transport efficiency. However, the specific role of the aromatic linkers between the polycyclic head and the anchoring groups of SAMs in determining the performance of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) remains unclear. In this study, we developed a series of phenothiazine-based Ar-SAMs to investigate how different aromatic linkers could affect molecular stacking, the regulation of substrate work function, and charge carrier dynamics.

Perovskite-based tandem solar cells (PTSCs) have made remarkable achievements in recent years, and the highest certified power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 33.9% has been achieved in perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells (PSTSCs), indicating their great commercialization potential. Nevertheless, the performance of PTSCs continues to be hindered by the compromised performance of wide-bandgap perovskite solar cells (WPSCs), particularly the high deficit of WPSCs.
