As part of the special issue of honoring the remarkable contributions of Dr Dante Cicchetti, the current paper attempts to describe the recent contributions that a developmental psychopathology perspective has made in understanding the development of alcohol use and alcohol-related problems over the lifespan. The paper also identifies some of the future challenges and research directions. Because the scope of this task far exceeds the confines of a journal length article this paper does not attempt a comprehensive review. Rather, it builds on an earlier review and commentary that was published in in 2013, with a similar goal.)Building on that work and updating its conclusions and suggestions for future directions, the current paper emphasizes findings from the research areas that were identified for further study in 2013 and the findings that have been published since that time.

Introduction: Levocarnitine is essential for brain functioning and fatty acid metabolism and stems largely from dietary sources. The Epsilon-Trimethyllysine Hydroxylase () gene encodes the enzyme N-Trimethyllysine hydroxylase (TMLH) which catalyses the first step in the biosynthesis of carnitine. Lack of TMLH enzyme activity is associated with developmental delay and autistic behaviours described as X-linked recessive autism, type 6 (OMIM#300872).

Background: Infancy regulatory problems (RP) of sleep, feeding and eating, and excessive crying are thought to play a key role in the development of psychopathology in childhood, but knowledge of the early trajectories is limited.

Objective: To explore RP at ages 8-11 months and the associations with mental health problems at 1½ years, and assess the influences of maternal mental health problems and relationship problems.

Methods: RP was explored in a nested in-cohort sample ( = 416) drawn from a community-based cohort ( = 2,973).

Developmental trajectories during the transition from adolescence to adulthood contribute to the establishment of stable, adult forms of operation. Understanding the neural mechanisms underlying this transition is crucial for identifying variability in normal development and the onset of psychiatric disorders, which typically emerge during this time. Habitual behaviors can serve as a model for understanding brain mechanisms underlying the stabilization of adult behavior, while also conferring risk for psychopathologies.

School of Psychology, Centre for Innovation in Mental Health, University of Southampton, University Road, Southampton, SO17 1BJ, UK.

The directionality of the relationship between adolescent alcohol consumption and mental health difficulties remains poorly understood. This study investigates the longitudinal relationship between alcohol use frequency, internalizing and externalizing symptoms from the ages of 11 to 17. We conducted a random-intercept cross-lagged panel model across three timepoints (ages: 11yrs, 14yrs, 17yrs; 50.

Introduction/objective: Schizophrenia with substance use disorder is a complex clinical condition that may increase treatment resistance. Cannabis use disorder is frequently associated with psychosis and the causal link has still to be defined. Partial D2/3 agonists may ensure limbic dopamine release normalization while avoiding reduced frontocortical dopamine release, which would contribute to negative symptoms.
