AI Article Synopsis

  • The heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) gene family is vital for how organisms, including shrimp, respond to environmental stress, but it hasn't been thoroughly studied in shrimp before this research.
  • This study identified 25 HSP70 genes in the shrimp genome, categorized them into six subgroups based on evolutionary relationships, and found that gene amplification was mainly due to tandem duplication and strong purifying selection.
  • Analysis showed that these genes exhibited varying expression patterns under stress conditions like low temperature, low salinity, and virus infection, with one gene being notably activated in all scenarios, highlighting its key role in stress response.

Article Abstract

The heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) gene family plays a crucial role in the response of organisms to environmental stress. However, it has not been systematically characterized in shrimp. In this study, we identified 25 genes in the genome. The encoded proteins were categorized into six subgroups based on phylogenetic relationships. Tandem duplication was the main driver of amplification in the family, and the genes have experienced strong purifying selection during evolution. Transcriptome data analysis revealed that the 25 members have different expression patterns in shrimp under conditions of low temperature, low salinity, and white spot syndrome virus infection. Among them, was significantly induced under all three stress conditions, suggesting that this gene plays an important role in response to environmental stress in . To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to systematically analyze the gene family in shrimp. The results provide important information on shrimp Hsp70s, contributing to a better understanding of the role of these genes in environmental stress and providing a basis for further functional studies.

Background: In the United States, approximately 2 million caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia (ADRD) are Latin American. As many of these caregivers are family or friends, most are not equipped with the tools necessary to address common behaviors associated with ADRD. Music-based interventions are an effective and accessible tool to assist caregivers in addressing these persistent behaviors.

Background: Our previous work has found that sexual and gender minority (SGM) or LGBTQIA+ caregivers of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) experience higher levels of stigma, depressive symptoms, and stress than non-SGM caregivers and that these outcomes are associated with experiences of microaggressions related to their SGM identities. Guided by the Health Equity Promotion Model, we sought to explore the impact of the environmental context on psychosocial outcomes among SGM caregivers of people living with ADRD.

Methods: Data from a cross-sectional online survey using a non-probabilistic sample of SGM caregivers of people with ADRD recruited via social media (n = 284) were combined with publicly available data reporting composite equity climate index scores across five domains: legal/non-discrimination protections, youth/family support, political/religious attitudes, health access/safety, and work environment/employment.
