This study investigates the relationship between frailty severity and gut microbiome characteristics in adults in Kazakhstan. We analyzed 158 participants across four frailty severity (mild to very severe) using metagenomic sequencing of stool samples. Frailty was significantly correlated with age, weight, and functional measures like walking speed and grip strength.

Vinasse is a by-product of sugarcane processing which is often used in fertigation; however, the direct use of vinasse harms the environment and reduces soil productivity due to its physicochemical properties. Anaerobic digestion (AD) offers an alternative to mitigate part of the negative effects. Anaerobic high-rate reactors, which mainly rely on sludge granulation, are mostly used in AD of vinasse wastewater.

Background: While surgery plays a pivotal role in the management of ileal Crohn's disease, the risk of endoscopic recurrence following an ileocaecal resection can be greater than 65% within 12 months of surgery. More than 90% of patients with Crohn's disease have a concomitant diagnosis of bile acid diarrhea following an ileal resection. This pilot study aimed to assess whether the use of bile acid sequestrants in patients with Crohn's disease who have undergone a primary terminal ileal resection with concomitant bile acid diarrhea can alter the microbiome and prevent disease recurrence.

Microorganisms constitute an essential component of the indoor ecosystem and may pose potential health risks after inhalation. However, evidence regarding the impact of indoor airborne microbiome on general respiratory health is scarce. Additionally, while air purification has been shown to be an effective strategy for controlling culturable bioaerosols, its impact on indoor airborne microbiome remains unclear.

Background And Aims: Intermittent fasting is a nutritional strategy that focuses on when to eat, rather than what to eat. Although the effectiveness of intermittent fasting practices in many metabolic diseases is known, its effect on microbiota and its underlying mechanism has not yet been clarified. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Ramadan fasting, one of the intermittent fasting practices, on gut microbiota and fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4).
