Background: We aimed to synthesize the kinematics and kinetics during landing and walking/running tasks of ankle copers compared with patients with chronic ankle instability and controls.

Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science. Tri-planar lower extremity biomechanics (joint angle and moment at maximum and initial contact, and joint displacement) were synthesized using standard mean difference and 95 % confidence intervals.

Sex-specific DNA methylation marks associated with sex-biased risk of recurrence in unprovoked venous thromboembolism.

J Thromb Haemost

January 2025

Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada; Office of the Vice-Principal of Research and Innovation, University of Toronto Mississauga, Mississauga, Canada. Electronic address:

Background: Whether to stop oral anticoagulants after a first unprovoked venous thromboembolism (VTE) is challenging, partially due to an intriguingly higher risk of VTE recurrence (rVTE) in men after therapy discontinuation. DNA methylation (DNAm) differences between men and women might underly this sex-biased rVTE risk difference.

Aim: To investigate sex-specific associations between DNAm at cytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) sites and rVTE.

Bone imaging modality precision and agreement between DXA, pQCT, and HR-pQCT.

JBMR Plus

February 2025

Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Monash University, Clayton, VIC 3168, Australia.

Quantifying precision error for DXA, peripheral QCT (pQCT), and HR-pQCT is crucial for monitoring longitudinal changes in body composition and musculoskeletal outcomes. Agreement and associations between bone variables assessed using pQCT and second-generation HR-pQCT are unclear. This study aimed to determine the precision of, and agreement and associations between, bone variables assessed via DXA, pQCT, and second-generation HR-pQCT.

Background: Despite extensive analysis, the dynamic changes in prostate epithelial cell states during tissue homeostasis as well as tumor initiation and progression have been poorly characterized. However, recent advances in single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology have greatly facilitated studies of cell states and plasticity in tissue maintenance and cancer, including in the prostate.

Methods: We have performed meta-analyses of new and previously published scRNA-seq datasets for mouse and human prostate tissues to identify and compare cell populations across datasets in a uniform manner.

Buried or exposed kirschner wires in paediatric upper extremity fracture fixation: A systematic review and meta-analysis of infection rates and complications.

Injury

January 2025

Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Derriford Hospital, Derriford Road, Plymouth, Devon, PL6 8DH, United Kingdom. Electronic address:

Background: Paediatric upper limb fractures are commonly treated with Kirschner (K) wire fixation, which can be buried or left exposed. Although both techniques are widely used, controversy remains regarding infection risk, complications, and other clinical outcomes between buried and exposed K-wires. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare infection rates and secondary outcomes between buried and exposed K-wires in paediatric upper limb fractures located distal to and including the elbow, and proximal to the carpus.
