One of the most important oil crops in the world, sunflower ( L.), is recognized to help in soil phytoremediation. Heavy metal (HM) contamination is one of the most abiotic challenges that may affect the growth and productivity of such an important crop plant. We studied the influence of HM-contaminated soils on metal homeostasis and the potential hypertolerance mechanisms in two sunflower Egyptian cultivars (V120 and S53). Both cultivars accumulated significantly higher cadmium concentrations in their roots compared to their shoots during Cd and Zn/Cd treatments. Higher root concentrations of 121 mg gdry weight (DW) and 125 mg g DW were measured in V120 plants compared to relatively lower values of 111 mg g DW and 105 mg g DW in the roots of S53 plants, respectively. Cadmium contamination significantly upregulated the expression of heavy metal ATPases () in the shoots of V120 plants. On the other hand, their roots displayed a notable expression of . This study indicates that V120 plants accumulated and sequestered Cd in their roots. Therefore, it is advised to cultivate the V120 cultivar in areas contaminated with heavy metals as it is a promising Cd phytoremediator.

Background: Colonization with () has a strong correlation with gastric cancer, and the virulence factor CagA is implicated in carcinogenesis. Studies have been conducted using medicinal plants with the aim of eliminating the pathogen; however, the possibility of blocking -induced cell differentiation to prevent the onset and/or progression of tumors has not been addressed. This type of study is expensive and time-consuming, requiring and/or tests, which can be solved using bioinformatics.

Organic fertilization and mycorrhization can increase the phytoremediation of copper-contaminated soils. The time of vermicomposting alters the properties of vermicompost, which can affect copper's availability and uptake. Therefore, this study sought to evaluate the effect of different organic fertilizers and mycorrhization on copper-contaminated soil phytoremediation.

National Center for Natural Products Research; Department of Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, School of Pharmacy, University of Mississippi, University, Mississippi, USA.

Background: Cryopreservation is the only method allowing the safe and cost-effective long-term conservation of important germplasm. Recent use of the cryo-plate system has proven beneficial in further simplifying the cryopreservation protocols.

Objective: Developing an efficient protocol for the cryopreservation of axillary buds of Cannabis sativa elite cultivars (MX and V1-20) by the V-cryoplate droplet-vitrification technique.
