Background And Objectives: Previous observational studies have established a connection between bronchiectasis and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), but none of these studies have provided a clear explanation for the underlying cause of this relationship. The present study thus implemented Mendelian randomization (MR) design to explore possible bidirectional relationships between IBD and bronchiectasis risk, with an additional focus on Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) as IBD subtypes.
Materials And Methods: A large genome-wide association study (GWAS)-derived data pool was leveraged to examine the relationships between bronchiectasis and IBD, CD, and UC. Two-sample MR analyses were performed with an inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach supplemented with the MR-Egger and weighted median methods. Sensitivity analyses were used to further assess the reliability of the main MR study findings. The possibility of reverse causation was also evaluated using a reverse MR approach.
Results: The IVW MR analytical approach revealed that IBD (p = 0.074), UC (p = 0.094), and CD (p = 0.644) had no significant impact on the incidence of bronchiectasis, with the converse also being true (p = 0.471, p = 0.700, and p = 0.099, respectively).
Conclusion: This MR analysis demonstrated that the higher occurrence of bronchiectasis in patients with IBD is not caused by genetic predisposition.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of seton placement for anal fistula in children.
Methods: The clinical data of children with anal fistula treated by seton placement admitted from January 2017 to September 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. Our primary treatments for perianal abscess (PA) are conservative treatment and drainage.

Background And Aims: Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a known risk factor for hepatobiliary malignancies. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies to determine the incidence and risk factors for hepatobiliary malignancies in people with PSC.
Methods: Pubmed and Embase databases were searched from inception to April 10, 2024 for cohort studies reporting data on the incidence of cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or gallbladder cancer (GBC) in PSC.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Myristica fragrans (Nutmeg) is a commonly used Chinese herbal medicine and edible spice. According to Pharmacopoeia of People's Republic of China, it has the effects of warming the middle and promoting qi, astringent intestines, and antidiarrheal. In the record of Compendium of Materia Medica, it is the myristica fragrans water extract (MFWE) that is utilized for therapeutic purposes of gastrointestinal disorders frequently.

Background: Defects in SLC26A3, the major colonic Cl-/HCO3- exchanger, result in chloride-rich diarrhea, a reduction in short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria, and a high incidence of inflammatory bowel disease in humans and in mice. Slc26a3-/- mice are, therefore, an interesting animal model for spontaneous but mild colonic inflammation and for testing strategies to reverse or prevent the inflammation. This study investigates the effect of Escherichia coli Nissle (EcN) application on the microbiome, SCFA production, barrier integrity, and mucosal inflammation in slc26a3-/- mice.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a nonspecific chronic inflammatory disease of the intestine that is mainly divided into ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Nutrients play important roles in the treatment of IBD. In this study, the effects of vegetable proteins on the regulation of IBD were explored via the amino acid scoring formula.
