Clay-reinforced polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composites and nanocomposites are one of the newest and most important compounds studied and used in various applications, including the biomedical, automotive industry, water treatment, packaging, fire retarding, and construction. The most important clays used in the synthesis of these composites are Bentonite, Montmorillonite, Kaolinite, and Illite. The addition of these nanoclays to the PVC matrix improves mechanical properties, thermal stability, and yellowness index properties. In this chapter, a detailed study of PVC and its properties, types of nanoclays and their properties, modification of nanoclays, production methods of composites, and nanocomposites of PVC/clay, their characterization, and applications have been performed. Herein, the types, properties, and applications of PVC/clay nanocomposites, as well as their challenges and future remarks, are reviewed.

The development of an efficient coating with comprehensive antimicrobial and anticorrosion properties for metals is crucial. The present study used a one-pot strategy to fabricate a high-performance nanocomposite coating of carboxylated nitrile butadiene rubber/cellulose nanofibers/zinc oxide (XNBR/CNF-ZnO), demonstrating excellent potential for application in the protection against metal corrosion. Eco-friendly CNF-ZnO nanomaterials, prepared using the in-situ generation method, were used as reinforcing fillers, while XNBR was used as the matrix material.

Epinephrine (Ep) is an important neurotransmitter, which plays an important role in the nervous system and glycogen metabolism of living organisms. Hence, a novel NCQDs/FeCoFe-PBA composite with FeCoFe-Prussian blue analogues (PBA) as the core and nitrogen-doped carbon quantum dots (NCQDs) as the shell was constructed by a one-pot hydrothermal method, and it was used for the efficient detection of Ep. As a good electroactive material, NCQDs in the composite not only improved the weak conductivity of FeCoFe-PBA, but also limited the self-aggregation of FeCoFe-PBA, and formed a uniform shell on FeCoFe-PBA.

This study demonstrates a new extraction method for determination of aflatoxins (AFs) in food samples by a GO-SiO/ZnO/FeO nanocomposite as new and effective sorbent. The nanocomposite structure was confirmed by FT-IR, XRD, EDX, FE-SEM, TEM, and mapping techniques. Optimization of the extraction process was conducted by investigating pH, adsorbent amount, sample volume, and solvent volume using central composite design (CCD).

In this study, a green synthesis method for synthesizing a novel nanocomposite (CuO/g-C₃N₄/Fe₃O₄) utilizing renewable dragon fruit peels as the primary raw material was developed. Hydrothermal and thermal decomposition techniques were used for nanocomposite synthesis. This nanocomposite was subsequently employed for the separation and preconcentration of Cd(II) from various environments, including food and water samples.

Solid magnetic liposomes (ML, nanocomposites comprising lipid bilayers that incorporate magnetic nanoparticles) may be used in wastewater remediation: the lipid bilayer creates an environment where organic pollutants preferentially partition instead of water and the manipulation of ML with an external magnet enables an easy recovery from water. This study aimed to assess the system's potential for water remediation, focusing on ML ability to remove common pollutants in industrial wastewater. Specifically, alkylphenol ethoxylates (APEO) were used as the archetype for organic pollutants.
