Central venous pressure is an estimate of right atrial pressure and is often used to assess hemodynamic status. However, since it is measured invasively, non-invasive alternatives would be of great utility. The aim of this preliminary study was a) to investigate whether photoplethysmography (PPG) can be used to characterize venous system fluid motion and b) to find the model for venous blood volume modulations. For this purpose, we monitored the internal jugular veins using contact (cPPG) and video PPG during clinically validated physiological tests: abdominojugular test (AJT) and breath holding (BH). Video PPG and cPPG signals were captured simultaneously on the left and right sides of the neck, respectively. ECG was also captured using the same clinical monitor as cPPG. Two volunteers underwent AJT and BH with head up/down, each with: baseline (15s), experiment (15s), and recovery (15s). Video PPG was split into remote PPG (rPPG) and micromotion detection. All signal modalities were significantly affected by physiological testing. Moreover, cPPG and micromotion waveforms exhibited primary features of jugular vein waveforms and, therefore, have great potential for venous blood flow monitoring. Specifically, remote patient monitoring applications may be enabled by this methodology, facilitating physical collection without a specially trained care provider.

White blood cells (WBCs), also known as leukocytes, are one of the most significant parts of the immune system. They generate antibodies, protect the body from illnesses, and heal wounds. Accurate estimation of WBCs is key for diagnosing cancer, infections, leukemia, lymphoma, and other diseases.

The standard polygraph, or lie detector, is limited by its reliance on average heart rate, subjective examiner interpretation, and the need for direct subject contact. Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) offers a promising contactless alternative, by using facial videos to extract heart rate variability (HRV). We introduce "LieRHRV," a remote lie detection algorithm based solely on extracted HRV parameters.

The carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) method is used clinically to determine degrees of stiffness and other indices of disease. It is believed PWV measurement in retinal vessels may allow early detection of diseases. In this paper we present a new non-invasive method for estimating PWVs in retinal vein segments close to the optic disc centre, based on the measurement of blood column pulsation in retinal veins (reflective of vessel wall pulsation), using modified photoplethysmography (PPG).

We evaluated the surgical stress response of dogs undergoing three ovariohysterectomy (OVH) techniques. Twenty-nine healthy females were allocated into groups: celiotomy and ligature (CelioSut), celiotomy and bipolar energy (CelioBip), and a video-assisted technique using two portals and bipolar energy (VidBip). Clinical evaluation was performed, and the following blood analyses were determined: acute phase proteins (C-reactive protein and haptoglobin), white blood cell counting (WBC), and biomarkers of oxidative status.

Introduction: Emotion and attention regulation significantly influence various aspects of human functioning and behavior. However, the interaction between emotion and attention in affecting performance remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate how individual differences in sustained attention, influenced by varying emotional states.
