Atmospheric pressure cold plasma is a promising technology in fighting pathogenic micro-organisms. In times of Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided to modify two types of cold plasma devices to study their effectiveness in the killing of pathogenic micro-organisms. These studies have shown that both the devices are efficient in this purpose. While pencil like microwave based device can destroy bacteria and its bacteriophage from 6 cm distance in 2 min, the larger (~ 40 cm) RF plasma based device could do the similar killing ability for the larger possible area in 4 min. Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) studies revealed that both these devices produce OH radicals which helped in the destruction of both bacteria and its bacteriophage. With suitable modifications, these devices, especially the larger area device may even be implemented for the elimination of Covid-19 affected wards of hospital without using any sensitive chemical process.

Some winter rapeseed (Brassica rapa) varieties can endure extremely low temperatures (-20°C to -32°C). However, because of a lack of mutant resources, the molecular mechanisms underlying cold tolerance in B. rapa remain unclear.

Green peas, with their high moisture content, require effective drying techniques to extend shelf life while preserving quality. Traditional drying methods face challenges due to the dense structure of the seed coat and wax layer, which limits moisture migration. This study investigates cold plasma (CP) pretreatment as a novel approach to enhance drying kinetics and maintain the quality attributes of green peas.

Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has antimicrobial properties and is also known to stimulate the immune system. These properties could be useful for the development of a novel therapeutic or preventive strategy against respiratory infections in the upper respiratory tract (URT) such as ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) without inducing an immune overreaction. This study investigated the cellular responses of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) after exposure to CAP in a three-dimensional (3D) model of the URT.
