Risk factors of Hypersensitivity Reactions to Carboplatin: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

J Allergy Clin Immunol Pract

December 2024

College of Pharmacy and Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Seoul National University, Seoul, South Korea. Electronic address:

Background: The development of hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs) to carboplatin can interrupt anticancer treatment and may shorten patient survival. Several studies have evaluated the risk factors for carboplatin HSRs, but the results have been inconclusive.

Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to establish a consensus on the risk factors of HSRs to carboplatin in cancer patients.

In most cases there is a single etiological factor causing neuromotor developmental delay and epilepsy while sometimes more than one gene may be involved. These include the autosomal recessive inherited CAMSAP1 gene, which is associated with cortical developmental malformations such as pachygyria and lissencephaly and the autosomal dominant inherited NBEA gene, which plays crucial roles in vesicle trafficking as well as synapse structure and function. Loss of function of both genes together is a well-known disease mechanism.

Background: Brazil has the second highest case count of Hansen's disease (leprosy, HD), but factors contributing to transmission in highly endemic areas of the country remain unclear. Recent studies have shown associations of helminth infection and leprosy, supporting a biological plausibility for increased leprosy transmission in areas with helminths. However, spatial analyses of the overlap of these infections are limited.

Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder primarily affecting exocrine glands, leading to symptoms such as dry mouth and dry eyes. While SS can occur as a primary condition, it may overlap with other autoimmune diseases, complicating management. Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), a liver disorder characterized by elevated serum globulins and liver-specific autoantibodies, can co-occur with SS, although this overlap is rare.
