Carbon materials with full sp-hybridized buckling is a major challenge pervading fundamental nanoscience and nanotechnology research. Carbon atoms that are sp hybridized prefer to form hexagonal rings, such as in carbon nanotubes and graphene, which are low-dimensional materials. The incorporation of heptagonal, octagonal, and/or larger rings into a hexagonal sp carbon meshwork has been identified as a strategy for assembling three-dimensional (3D) sp carbon crystals, and one of the typical representatives are Schwarzite carbons, which possess a negative surface Gaussian curvature as well as unique physical properties. Herein, a 3D Schwarzite carbon consisting of only sp-buckled heptagonal carbon rings, which is referred to as Hepta-carbon, is proposed based on first-principles calculations. Hepta-carbon is mechanically and thermodynamically stable, and energetically more favourable than experimental graphdiyne, fullerene C and most Schwarzite carbons under ambient conditions. Molecular dynamics simulations indicate that Hepta-carbon exhibits high-temperature thermostability up to 1500 K. Band structure and mechanical property simulations indicate that Hepta-carbon is a semi-metallic material with electron conduction and exhibits impressive mechanical properties such as high strength with quasi-isotropy, high incompressibility similar to diamonds, elastic deformation behaviour under uniaxial stress, and high ductility. Hepta-carbon presents a porous network with a low mass density of 1.84 g cm and connected channels with diameters of 3.3-6.1 Å. Theoretical simulations of gas adsorption energy demonstrate that Hepta-carbon can effectively adsorb and stabilize greenhouse gases, including NO, CO, CH, and SF.

Variable relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon radiotherapy may be calculated using several models, including the microdosimetric kinetic model (MKM), stochastic MKM (SMKM), repair-misrepair-fixation (RMF) model, and local effect model I (LEM), which have not been thoroughly compared. In this work, we compared how these four models handle carbon beam fragmentation, providing insight into where model differences arise. Monoenergetic and spread-out Bragg peak carbon beams incident on a water phantom were simulated using Monte Carlo.

The environmental impact of chemicals used in aquaculture, particularly nitrofurantoin, has raised global concern. Nitrofurantoin, a broad-spectrum antimicrobial, is commonly used in aquaculture despite safety risks. Determination of nitrofurantoin in water samples of fish ponds is necessary to ensure the safety and quality of seafood.

Genomic reorganisation between species and horizontal gene transfer have been considered the most important mechanism of biological adaptation under selective pressure. Still, the impact of mobile genes in microbial ecology is far from being completely understood. Here we present the collection and characterisation of microbial consortia enriched from environments contaminated with emerging pollutants, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic compounds resulting from incomplete burning of organic materials. This work describes the successful layer-by-layer fabrication of a novel zinc oxide nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles, aniline, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes on a stainless steel wire by electrodeposition. The coating and extraction conditions were screened, optimized, and validated using factorial design and central composite design, respectively.

is a common opportunistic pathogen associated with nosocomial infections. The primary treatment for infections typically involves antibiotics, which can lead to the emergence of multidrug-resistant strains. Therefore, there is a pressing need for safe and effective alternative methods.
