Alternative splicing (AS) is a widely observed phenomenon in eukaryotes that plays a critical role in development and stress responses. In plants, the large number of RNA-seq datasets in response to different environmental stressors can provide clues for identification of condition-specific and/or common AS variants for preferred agronomic traits. We report RNA-seq datasets (350.7 Gb) from Capsicum annuum inoculated with one of three bacteria, one virus, or one oomycete and obtained additional existing transcriptome datasets. In this study, we investigated the landscape of AS in response to environmental stressors, signaling molecules, and tissues from 425 total samples comprising 841.49 Gb. In addition, we identified genes that undergo AS under specific and shared stress conditions to obtain potential genes that may be involved in enhancing tolerance to stressors. We uncovered 1,642,007 AS events and identified 4,354 differential alternative splicing genes related to environmental stressors, tissues, and signaling molecules. This information and approach provide useful data for basic-research focused on enhancing tolerance to environmental stressors in hot pepper or establishing breeding programs.

Kelp forests serve as the foundation for shallow marine ecosystems in many temperate areas of the world but are under threat from various stressors, including climate change. To better manage these ecosystems now and into the future, understanding the impacts of climate change and identifying potential refuges will help to prioritize management actions. In this study, we use a long-term dataset of observations of kelp percentage cover for two dominant canopy-forming species off the coast of Victoria, Australia: Ecklonia radiata and Phyllospora comosa.

Large-scale restoration projects are an exciting and often untapped opportunity to use an experimental approach to inform ecosystem management and test ecological theory. In our $10M tidal marsh restoration project, we installed over 17,000 high marsh plants to increase cover and diversity, using these plantings in a large-scale experiment to test the benefits of clustering and soil amendments across a stress gradient. Clustered plantings have the potential to outperform widely spaced ones if plants alter conditions in ways that decrease stress for close neighbors.

Background: Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is associated with high rates of stressful life events (SLEs). It is unclear whether people who experience SLEs have more BPD symptoms after accounting for the effects of familial risk factors. Purpose Of Review: The burgeoning field of environmental epigenetics has revealed the malleability of the epigenome and uncovered numerous instances of its sensitivity to environmental influences; however, pinpointing specific mechanisms that tie together environmental triggers, epigenetic pathways, and organismal responses has proven difficult. This article describes how Caenorhabditis elegans can fill this gap, serving as a useful model for the discovery of molecular epigenetic mechanisms that are conserved in humans.
Recent Findings: Recent results show that environmental stressors such as methylmercury, arsenite, starvation, heat, bacterial infection, and mitochondrial inhibitors can all have profound effects on the epigenome, with some insults showing epigenetic and organismal effects for multiple generations.

Soybean protein isolate (SPI) exhibits limited functional properties in processing applications due to environmental stressors such as pH, salt ion, and temperature. The present study was devoted to exploring the non-covalent assembly of SPI with chitosan (CS), glucan (GL) and sodium alginate (SA) under different pH conditions. At a fixed mixing ratio (1:1), the phase behavior, protein solubility, and surface hydrophobicity (H) of the resulting protein-polysaccharide complexes (PPCs) exhibited great differences due to the diversity of polysaccharide charge density and structure.
