Published: March 2024

In satellite remote sensing (SRS), there is a demand for large-power microwave components. A Butler matrix is essential to a transmitting antenna array in SRS. This article illustrates the electrical and mechanical design, simulation, and test results of a large-power planar beamforming network for SRS at C-band. It is a 4 × 4 Butler matrix based on square coaxial lines. Short-ended stubs are used in the Butler matrix to broaden its bandwidth by 10%, support inner conductors, and enhance heat transfer in vacuum environments. The simulation results are consistent with the measured results. The reflection coefficient is less than -18 dB, and the isolation is more than 23 dB from 3.8 GHz to 4.2 GHz. The insertion losses are less than 0.6 dB, and the phase errors are better than ±6°. The measured peak microwave power of the proposed Butler matrix is 9 kW. Its size is 440 × 400 × 40 mm. The proposed Butler matrix beamforming network can be applied to SRS systems.

Protein glycosylation is recognized as a Critical Quality Attribute for the biological and therapeutic activity of many recombinant proteins. Therefore, glycosylation should be monitored rigorously to ensure the desired quality, safety, and potency of monoclonal antibodies and other therapeutic glycoproteins. However, glycans are highly heterogeneous structures in proteins, and this poses a challenge for glycoprofile analysis.

Dense Collagen I as a Biomimetic Material to Track Matrix Remodelling in Renal Carcinomas.

ACS Omega

UCL Centre for 3D Models of Health and Disease, Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London, Charles Bell House, 43-45 Foley Street, W1W 7TS London, United Kingdom.

Renal tissue is a dynamic biophysical microenvironment, regulating healthy function and influencing tumor development. Matrix remodelling is an iterative process and aberrant tissue repair is prominent in kidney fibrosis and cancer. Biomimetic 3D models recapitulating the collagen composition and mechanical fidelity of native renal tissue were developed to investigate cell-matrix interactions in renal carcinomas.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigated the occurrence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in non-disease causing E. coli from healthy cows and calves in Western Australia, analyzing fecal samples from 1,117 animals across 26 farms.
  • - The researchers utilized advanced techniques like MALDI-TOF MS and broth microdilution to confirm E. coli isolates and assess their resistance profiles against 8 crucial antibiotics.
  • - Findings revealed high rates of non-wild type E. coli, especially for ampicillin in both adult cows (68.8%) and calves (67.1%), with clinical resistance being notably higher in calves for ampicillin (30.0%) and tetracycline (40.3%).

The large dimensionality of environments is the limiting factor in applying optimal control to open quantum systems beyond the Markovian approximation. Various methods exist to simulate non-Markovian systems, which effectively reduce the environment to a number of active degrees of freedom. Here, we show that several of these methods can be expressed in terms of a process tensor in the form of a matrix-product-operator, which serves as a unifying framework to show how they can be used in optimal control and to compare their performance.

This article discusses the preparation of different grades of single-ion conducting quasi-solid polymer electrolytes (q-SPE) material (Chit-g-SPA-IL) based on biopolymer (chitosan), polyacrylic acid and DBU-acetate (DBUH AcO) ionic liquid. Chit-SPA-60 %-IL exhibited the highest conductivity within the range of 10 S/cm. TGA analysis demonstrated the stability of electrolytes up to a temperature of 120 °C.
