The photocatalytic activity of fluorine (F) doped CuO nanoparticles (NPs) prepared employing modified sol-gel process was investigated here in this study. Structural and elemental characterization using XRD and XPS data confirmed successful incorporation of F as dopant. F doping led to lattice distortion and reduced crystallinity with smaller crystallite size while promoting the emergence of CuO as the second phase. Morphological analysis showed irregularly shaped, fused particles with a decreasing particle size trend upon doping. Addition of hydrogen peroxide generated hydroxyl radicals (OH˙) under ultra-violet (UV) light, which effectively degrades pollutants by facilitating the photocatalytic kinetics. Photocatalytic activity of all the nanoparticles was examined against Rhodamine B (Rh B) dye and most efficient degradation (97.78%) was observed for 3 mol% F dopant concentration. The emergence of CuO phase for doping beyond 1 mol% F doped CuO might be the prime reason to enhance its degradation performance. Conversely, 5 mol% doping caused notable phase changes and decreased degradation rate (88.05%) due to increased recombination rate in presence of metallic copper. The ability of F doped CuO nanoparticles to disintegrate organic contaminants by producing reactive oxygen species when exposed to UV light suggests their potential effectiveness in applications such as dye degradation, water purification, and environmental sustainability.

Activation of HO cleavage for H* production by defect engineering eliminates the insufficient supply of protons in the NORR process under neutral conditions. However, it remains challenging to precisely control the defect formation for optimizing the equilibrium between H* production and H* binding. Here, we propose a strategy to boost defect generation through S-doping induced NiFe-LDH lattice distortion, and successfully optimize the balance of H* production and binding.

ZnO-doped CuO nanocomposites (CuO-ZnO NPs) of 1, 3, and 5 mol% were prepared by the solution combustion method using ODH as a fuel (Oxlyl-hydrazide) at 500 °C and calcining at 1000 °C for two hours and the Structural, photocatalytic, and electrochemical properties were investigated by experimental and theoretical methods. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns revealed a crystallite size (D) range of 25 to 31 nm for pure CuO and 1, 3, and 5 mol% CuO-ZnO NPs. According to calculations, the optical energy band gap (Eg) of the NPs is between 2.

This study involves a novel CuO/CoFe₂O₄/MWCNTs (CCT) nanocomposite, developed by integrating cobalt ferrite (CoFe₂O₄) and copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles onto multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), for the degradation of tetracycline (TC) under visible light. The photocatalyst was extensively characterized using XRD, HR-SEM, EDX, HR-TEM, UV-Vis, BET, and PL analysis. The synthesized CoFe₂O₄ and CuO nanoparticles exhibited crystallite sizes of 46.

This study explores the influence of Fe ion incorporation on the oxygen-evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline media, utilizing CuO-based materials. Instead of developing an efficient and stable OER catalyst, this research investigates two distinct CuO variants: one with Fe ions adhered to the surface and another with Fe ions integrated into the CuO lattice. By employing a variety of analytical techniques, the study demonstrates that the CuO variant with surface-bound Fe ions (referred to as compound 1) exhibits significantly enhanced OER performance compared to the variant with internally embedded Fe ions (referred to as compound 2).

Using electrocatalytic water reduction to produce hydrogen fuel offers significant potential for clean energy, yet its large-scale adoption depends on developing cost-effective, non-precious, and efficient catalysts to replace expensive Pt-based state-of-the-art HER catalysts. The catalytic HER performance of an active catalyst largely depends on the available catalytic active sites, conductivity, and intrinsic electrochemical kinetics, all of which can be altered by incorporating a heteroatom into the active catalyst structure. Herein, we synthesized a unique nitrogen-doped CuO@CuS (NCOS) core-shell-structured catalyst through a facile hydrothermal process followed by an efficacious nitrogenation process, and its electrochemical performance for the HER was systematically analyzed.
