As an important prognostic indicator in breast cancer, human epithelial growth factor receptor-2 (HER-2) is of importance for assessing prognosis of breast cancer patients, whose accurate and facile analysis are imperative in clinical diagnosis and treatment. Herein, photoactive Z-scheme UiO-66/CdInS heterojunction was constructed by a hydrothermal method, whose optical property and photoactivity were critically investigated by a range of techniques, combined by elucidating the interfacial charge transfer mechanism. Meanwhile, PtPdCu nanoflowers (NFs) were fabricated by a simple aqueous wet-chemical method, whose peroxidase (POD)-mimicking catalytic activity was scrutinized by representative tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) oxidation in HO system. Taken together, the UiO-66/CdInS based photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was established for quantitative analysis of HER-2, where the detection signals were further magnified through catalytic precipitation reaction towards 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) oxidation (assisted by the PtPdCu NFs nanozyme). The PEC aptasensor presented a broader linear range within 0.1 pg mL-0.1 μg mL and a lower limit of detection of 0.07 pg mL. This work developed a new PEC aptasensor for ultrasensitive determination of HER-2, holding substantial promise for clinical diagnostics.

Fumonisin B (FB) is a mycotoxin mainly found in corn, peanuts, and wheat crops, which affects human health. Based on bismuth sulfide/bismuth oxychloride (BiS/BiOCl) composite material, silver sulfide (AgS) was grown in situ as a quantum dot sensitization signal, and a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was designed by layer upon layer modification to detect FB. BiS/BiOCl has a wide range of visible light absorption, stable chemical properties, and a simple synthesis method.

To develop ultrasensitive and rapid antibiotics residue detection method is crucial for ensuring food safety and protecting human health. Herein, a novel photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor integrated with single-atom ruthenium (Ru) nanozyme-mediated catalytic precipitation as a valuable signal amplification strategy, have been established for ultrasensitive chloramphenicol (CAP) detection. Particularly, the exceptional peroxidase-mimicking activity of single-atom Ru nanozyme is responsible for accelerating the oxidation of 4-chloro-1-naphthol (4-CN) to produce insoluble precipitate on the electrode, which in turn causes a notable reduction in the photocurrent.

Despite its excellent efficiency in natural photosynthesis, the utilization of photosystem II (PSII)-based artificial photoelectrochemical (PEC) systems for analytical purposes is hindered due to the low enzyme loading density and ineffective electron transfer (ET) processes. Here, we present a straightforward and effective approach to prepare a PSII-based biohybrid photoanode with remarkable photoresponse, enabled by the use of a hierarchically structured inverse-opal tin oxide (IO-SnO) electrode combined with gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). The porous, carbon-containing IO-SnO structure allows for a high density and photoactivity loading of PSII complexes, while also providing strong electrical coupling between the protein film and the electrode.

Fumonisin B1 (FB1), the most prevalent and highly toxic mycotoxin within the fumonisins family, poses threats to humans, especially in children and infants, even at trace levels. Therefore, it is essential to design an easy and sensitive detection strategy. Herein, a brand-new dual-photoelectrode photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing platform for FB1 detection under near-infrared irradiation was unveiled.

A single semiconductor-based photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor usually faces a challenge of low sensitivity due to poor solar energy utilization and a high photogenerated carrier recombination rate. Herein, an ultra-thin carbon nitride nanosheet-coated InO (InO/CNS) S-type heterojunction-based PEC aptasensor has been established to achieve highly sensitive detection of diazinon (DZN) pesticide in water environment. Construction of S-type heterojunction induces a band shift and an electric field effect, enhancing light utilization and accelerating directional transmission of carriers, leading to outstanding PEC performance.
