The fluctuating water-line corrosion of EH40 steel in sterile and biotic media was investigated with a wire beam electrode. When the coupons were partially immersed in the sterile medium, the position of the low water-line acted as the cathodic zone and the area below the low water-line constantly served as the main anodic zone. The thin electrolyte layers with uneven thickness promoted the galvanic current of the region below the low water-line. Different from the sterile environment, the metabolism of Halomonas titanica with oxygen as the final electron acceptor reduced the dissolved oxygen concentration, which resulted in the position of the low water-line acting as the anodic zone.

Precipitation stable-isotope data are often used in hydroclimatic, hydrological and hydrogeological investigations, with measurements typically undertaken on integrated monthly samples. However, daily sampling reveals overlooked aspects of controls on precipitation isotope values, including synoptic meteorological conditions. We present a one-year record of stable isotopes in daily precipitation during 2021, from a site in SE England close to Greater London.

Understanding long-term coastal changes requires comprehensive records of morphological data spanning extended periods, ideally over multiple decades. Nevertheless, significant challenges arise from the restricted availability and accessibility of reliable data, especially in the case of complex coastal systems dominated by wave-current dynamics, such as ebb-tidal deltas (ETDs). This study introduces a new dataset for Tagus ETD in central Portugal, from 1845 to 1985 based on historic nautical charts available for the area.

The growth of pathogenic bacteria in moist and wet surfaces and tubing of medically relevant devices results in serious infections in immunocompromised patients. In this study, we investigated and demonstrated the successful implementation of a UV-C side-emitting optical fiber in disinfecting medically relevant pathogenic bacteria ( and Methicillin-resistant [MRSA]) within tight channels of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE is a commonly used material both in point-of-use (POU) water treatment technologies and medical devices (dental unit water line [DUWL], endoscope).

Background: The present study investigated the population structure and breeding biology of the burrowing brachyuran crab species Alcock, 1900, which is commonly found on the sandy beach of Bhavnagar, located on the Gulf of Kachchh, Gujarat coast, India.
Methods: Monthly sampling was conducted from February 2021 to January 2022 at the time of low tide using three line transects perpendicular to the water line, intercepted by a quadrate (0.25 m) each at three different levels of the middle intertidal region: 20 m, 70 m, and 120 m.
