Herein, we report an in-situ mild and metal-free protocol for thiomethylation of heteroarenes in high yields. The thiomethylation of various chloropurines, nucleosides, and chloroheteroarenes has been accomplished offering easy access to agrochemicals and synthetic molecules useful for drug discovery.

Research and development of new intelligent foaming and discharging agent system.

Sci Rep

Hubei Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Drilling and Production Engineering, Yangtze University, Wuhan, 430100, China.

The application of classic foaming agent faces several issues, including excessive use of defoaming agent, inadequate defoaming, pipeline blockage due to silicone oil precipitation, and high development cost of the foaming agent. To address the aforementioned issues, a novel intelligent foaming agent was created. This resulted in the development of a new intelligent foaming and discharging agent system.

Non-catalytic glycerol dehydrogenation to dihydroxyacetone using needle-in-tube dielectric barrier discharge plasma.

Sci Rep

Center of Excellence in Catalysis and Catalytic Reaction Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, 10330, Thailand.

Glycerol, a by-product of biodiesel production, could be converted into various value-added products. This work focuses on its dehydrogenation to dihydroxyacetone (DHA), which is mainly used in the cosmetics industry. While several methods have been employed for DHA production, some necessitate catalysts and involve harsh reaction conditions as well as long reaction times.

The garden dormouse (Eliomys quercinus) is a fat-storing mammal that undergoes annual periods of hibernation to mitigate the effects of food scarcity, low ambient temperatures, and reduced photoperiod that characterize winter. Like other hibernating species, this animal suppresses its metabolic rate by downregulating nonessential genes and processes in order to prolong available energy stores and limit waste accumulation throughout the season. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short, single-stranded, noncoding RNAs that bind to mRNA and mediate post-transcriptional suppression, making miRNA ideal for modulating widespread changes in gene expression, including global downregulation typified by metabolic rate depression.

Mechanical characteristics of spinal cord tissue by indentation.

The mechanical properties of brain and spinal cord tissue have proven to be extremely complex and difficult to assess. Due to the heterogeneous and ultra-soft nature of the tissue, the available literature shows a large variance in mechanical parameters derived from experiments. In this study, we performed a series of indentation experiments to systematically investigate the mechanical properties of porcine spinal cord tissue in terms of their sensitivity to indentation tip diameter, loading rate, holding time, ambient temperature along with cyclic and oscillatory dynamic loading.

Scaffolding and Heavy-Atom Effects of Metal Chains Enhanced Tunable Long Persistent Luminescence in Metal-Organic Frameworks.

Inorg Chem

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Chemical Additives for China National Light Industry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shaanxi University of Science and Technology, Xi'an 710021, China.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with long persistent luminescence (LPL) have attracted extensive research attention due to their potential applications in information encryption, anticounterfeiting technology, and security logic. The strategic combinations of organic phosphor linkers and metal ions lead to tremendous frameworks, which could unveil many undiscovered properties of organics. Here, the synthesis and characterization of a three-dimensional MOF (Cd-MOF) is reported, which demonstrates enhanced blue photoluminescence and a phosphorescent lifetime of 124 ms as compared to the pristine linker (HL) under ambient conditions due to the scaffolding and heavy-atom effects of metal chains in the framework.
