The reconstruction choice of scrotal defects after Fournier gangrene has been routinely based on the reconstructive ladder. Defects are usually managed with either skin-grafting or regional flaps to achieve testicular coverage. However, skin grafting done directly to testes may lead to chronic pain issues, and skin flaps can potentially be too thick to achieve good temperature control for spermatogenesis. We present the first reported case of total scrotal resurfacing after Fournier gangrene in a 48-year-old patient with NovoSorb Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix. The patient showed a good cosmetic outcome with no residual pain issues. Further research is recommended to further investigate the long-term effects of scrotal reconstruction with Biodegradable Temporizing Matrix.

The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to assess the efficacy of the biodegradable temporising matrix (BTM) (NovoSorb; PolyNovo Biomaterials Pty Ltd, Port Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) in the reconstruction of complex upper extremity wounds. The authors conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines assessing the efficacy of BTM in complex upper extremity wound reconstruction. The primary outcome measures were successful BTM integration and the proportion of wounds healed.

Managing patients with severe fixation of intra-abdominal contents, known as frozen abdomen, often creates a vicious cycle of tissue injury that further prolongs open abdomen resolution. We share the management course of a 28-year-old male status post motor vehicle accident with traumatic pancreatitis and complex liver injury. Following multiple laparotomies for abdominal wash out, he developed a frozen abdomen and an entero-atmospheric fistula (EAF) through granulated bowel.

Achieving a functional and aesthetic reconstruction following complex trauma is a challenge. Skin substitutes, including acellular dermal matrices, and newer, synthetic options such as NovoSorb biodegradable temporizing membrane (BTM) have given the reconstructive surgeon a useful tool where autologous options have been exhausted, are inappropriate, or would present a suboptimal reconstruction. This case series describes 6 patients admitted to an urban level I major trauma center between July and December 2022.

Background: The radial forearm free flap is frequently chosen for phalloplasty; however, flap size required for phalloplasty is associated with a large scar burden and functional concerns. We sought to investigate donor site functionality, aesthetics, and volume deficits in a cohort of individuals who underwent radial forearm phalloplasty (RFP) with donor site skin grafting alone or dermal substitute and subsequent skin grafting.
Methods: Donor site functionality was assessed using the quick Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (qDASH).
