Neonatal lupus erythematosus is a rare autoimmune disease caused by passive transplacental acquisition of maternal autoantibodies manifesting in cutaneous, cardiac, haematological and hepatobiliary abnormalities. The hallmark dermatological finding is erythematous annular lesions with a predilection for photo-exposed areas of the skin. We present a case of a female infant born to a mother with Sjogren's syndrome, who initially presented to an ambulatory care setting with non-specific erythematous papules involving the face and scalp.

A 50-year-old man, a known case of human immunodeficiency virus infection for the past 1 year, was on antiretroviral therapy in the form of stavudine, lamivudine, and nevirapine. Three days after replacing stavudine with tenofovir, he developed redness on the face and neck and within 48 h the rash became generalized. Dermatological examination revealed involvement of photoexposed areas of the face in the form of erythema and ill-defined hyperpigmented plaques, with mild periorbital edema.

Malnutrition states are relatively uncommon in the UK but we have seen two recent cases which have heightened our awareness of both dermatological manifestations of malnutrition and of nutritional sequelae of a dermatological problem. Case 1 is a patient with anorexia nervosa presenting with features of pellagra. This condition is due to deficiency of niacin and responds rapidly to replacement therapy.
