Article Abstract

: Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) is a rare craniofacial disorder. The aim of this study is to provide information on the immunological profile of this pathology. Since PRS can be included in a wider spectrum of sclerodermic diseases, we propose a case-control study comparing a patient affected by PRS with one with a diagnosis of scleroderma, herein used as control (CTR). : B lymphocyte, T lymphocyte, and monocyte phenotypes and functions were assessed by flow cytometry in influenza (Flu)- or anti cluster differentiation (CD)3/CD28-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Cytokine concentration was evaluated as well in PBMC supernatants, plasma, and saliva by Luminex assay. : T and B lymphocytes were similarly activated in unstimulated PRS and CTR cells but differed following antigen stimulation. T helper (Th)17 lymphocytes were expanded in PRS compared to CTR; this increase correlated with higher interleukin (IL)-17 concentration. : Our case-control study is the first to compare the immunological profiles of PRS and scleroderma patients. The higher percentage of Th17 cells in PRS suggests the use of anti-IL17 receptor monoclonal antibody in this rare disease; however, further studies with larger numbers of patients are needed to confirm our findings.

Introduction: Unplanned, delayed readmissions (>30 ds) following oncologic surgeries can increase mortality and care costs and affect hospital quality indices. However, there is a dearth of literature on rectal cancer surgery. Hence, we aimed to assess the risk factors associated with delayed readmissions following rectal cancer surgery to improve targeted interventions, patient outcomes, and quality indices.

This study compares and investigates the efficacy of 2 different surgical methods for early stage femoral head necrosis and analyze the factors affecting surgical outcomes and long-term femoral head survival. A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 48 patients (52 hips) with femoral head necrosis who underwent either the Super-Path or Watson-Jones approach from January 1, 2016, to January 1, 2024. Harris scores at multiple time points before and after surgery were compared using repeated-measures analysis of variance (ANOVA), and a COX proportional hazards model was used to analyze risk factors.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical benefits and outcomes of adjuvant radiation therapy on adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) patients. All patients with ACC that were reported between 2010 and 2015 were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database. A forward-stepwise Cox proportional hazards regression was used to identify independent risk factors.

Rationale: Thrombus is the most common occupying lesion in the cardiac chambers, it is often distinguished from cardiac neoplastic occupations. Among them, the most common is cardiac myxoma, whose imaging manifestations are often confused with thrombus. However, the 2 types of lesions have different therapeutic strategies and are both potentially high-risk sources of embolism, so early differentiation between intracardiac thrombus and cardiac tumor is essential.

This study assesses the effect of carotid sinus blockade applied with a local anesthetic on hemodynamic parameters during carotid endarterectomy (CEA) operations performed under general anesthesia. The medical records of patients who underwent CEA under general anesthesia between January 2020 and December 2022, were retrospectively reviewed. It was recorded whether the patients received carotid sinus block with 2 mL of 2% prilocaine.
