Superoxide and hydrogen peroxide are reactive oxygen species (ROS) involved in the oxidation of multiple biological molecules and the signaling processes during plant growth and stress response. Thus, control of ROS is fundamental for cell survival and development, with superoxide dismutase (EC 1.15.1.1, SOD) being one of the main enzymes involved. Different isoforms of SOD catalyze the dismutation of superoxide (O) to hydrogen peroxide (HO) and oxygen (O), such as Mn-SODs, Cu,Zn-SODs, and Fe-SODs. Using non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE) combined with a specific staining method for SOD activity, the protocol describes the identification of different SOD isozymes, based on their differential inhibition by KCN and HO, in different organs and plant species such as pea (Pisum sativum L.) leaves and pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) fruits.

Background: The hypobaric hypoxic atmosphere can cause adverse reactions or sickness. The purpose of this study was to explore the preventive effect and mechanism of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) on acute pathological injury in mice exposed to high-altitude.
Methods: We pretreated C57BL/6 mice with hUC-MSCs via the tail vein injection, and then the mice were subjected to hypobaric hypoxic conditions for five days.

The objective of this study is to explore how adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) regulate mitochondrial structure and function and the impact of this regulation on slowing cellular senescence. HFF-1 cells were induced by HO to establish a cellular senescence model, and ASCs or Mdivi-1 (mitochondrial fission inhibitor) was added. MTT examined the cell proliferation; flow cytometry detected mitochondrial membrane potential as well as apoptosis and cell cycle; kit measured ATP production; ELISA analyzed the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), tumor necrosis factor alpha-like (TNF-α), glutathione (GSH), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD); Western blotting and qRT-PCR detected the expression of protein and mRNA levels; and β-galactosidase staining observed the degree of cellular senescence.

This study aimed to explore the effect of anthocyanin-rich black sugarcane on milk production, plasma antioxidant capacity, and the storage period DPPH scavenging capacity of milk in lactating dairy cows. Sixteen lactating dairy cows were stratified and randomly assigned into two balanced dietary groups, namely Anthocyanin-rich black sugarcane (AS), and Napier grass (NG). The AS group demonstrated a significant decrease (p < 0.

Nanopesticides have been recently introduced as novel pesticides to overcome the drawbacks of using traditional synthetic pesticides. The present study evaluated the acaricidal activity of Copper/Graphene oxide core-shell nanoparticles against two tick species, Rhipicephalus rutilus and Rhipicephalus turanicus. The Copper/Graphene oxide core-shell nanoparticles were synthetized through the solution plasma (SP) method under different conditions.

Diabetic neuropathic pain (DNP) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) and is characterized by spontaneous pain and neuroinflammation. The Sigma-1 receptor (Sig-1R) has been proposed as a target for analgesic development. It is an important receptor with anti-inflammatory properties and has been found to regulate DNP.
