Rare, full length circular intron RNAs distinct from lariats have been reported in several species, but their biogenesis is not understood. We envision and test a hypothesis for their formation using , documenting full length and novel processed circular RNAs from multiple introns. Evidence implicates a previously undescribed catalytic activity of the intron-lariat spliceosome (ILS) in which the 3'-OH of the lariat tail (with optional trimming and adenylation by the nuclear 3' processing machinery) attacks the branch, joining the intron 3' end to the 5' splice site in a 3'-5' linked circle. Human U2 and U12 spliceosomes produce analogous full length and processed circles. Post-splicing catalytic activity of the spliceosome may promote intron transposition during eukaryotic genome evolution.

Non-equilibrium molecular dynamics (NEMD) simulations reveal the existence of a spontaneous heat current (SHC) in the absence of a temperature gradient and demonstrate ultra-high thermal rectification in asymmetric trapezoid-shaped graphene. These unique properties have potential applications in power generation and thermal circuits, functioning as thermal diodes. Our findings also show the presence of negative and zero thermal conductivity in this system.

Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptors (IP3R) mediate Ca2+ release from intracellular stores, contributing to complex regulation of numerous physiological responses. The involvement of the three IP3R genes (ITPR1, ITPR2 and ITPR3) in inherited human diseases has started to shed light on the essential roles of each receptor in different human tissues and cell types. Variants in the ITPR3 gene, which encodes IP3R3, have recently been found to cause demyelinating sensorimotor Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy type 1J (CMT1J).

Cellular senescence is a complex biological response to sublethal damage. The RNA-binding protein HNRNPK was previously found to decrease prominently during senescence in human diploid fibroblasts. Here, analysis of the mechanisms leading to reduced HNRNPK abundance revealed that in cells undergoing senescence, mRNA levels declined transcriptionally and full-length HNRNPK protein was progressively lost, while the abundance of a truncated HNRNPK increased.
