Unlabelled: Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is a lymphoproliferative disorder characterised by an accumulation of monoclonal B lymphocytes, with an increased risk of secondary cancers. The coexistence of CLL and chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a rare phenomenon, with three main types being classified: CML preceding CLL, CLL preceding CML and simultaneous occurrence. The coexistence of these chronic leukaemias poses a complex clinical challenge, with the underlying mechanisms of their association remaining enigmatic. Here, we present a report of an elderly male with a long history of CLL, who was subsequently diagnosed with secondary CML.
Learning Points: The development of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) subsequent to chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is an uncommon occurrence, challenging conventional expectations of disease evolution in chronic leukaemia.Extensive and appropriate testing is necessary to promptly identify secondary CML in CLL patients.Targeted therapy with dasatinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor, may demonstrate efficacy in reducing leukocytosis and levels in patients with coexisting CLL and CML.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic relapsing-remitting and potentially progressive form of inflammatory bowel disease in which there is extensive inflammation and mucosal damage in the colon and rectum as a result of an abnormal immune response. MV130 is a mucosal-trained immunity-based vaccine used to prevent respiratory tract infections in various clinical settings. Additionally, MV130 may induce innate immune cells that acquire anti-inflammatory properties and promote tolerance, which could have important implications for chronic inflammatory diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Myeloid chimerism better reflects donor stem cell engraftment than whole-blood chimerism in assessing graft function following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT). We describe our experience with 130 patients aged younger than 18 years, treated with allogeneic HCT using bone marrow or PBSC from HLA-matched donors for non-malignant diseases, whose pre-transplant conditioning therapy included alemtuzumab and who were monitored with lineage-specific chimerism after transplant. At 6 years post-transplant, overall survival (OS) was 91.

This study investigates bacterial etiology and antibiotic resistance in pediatric leukemia patients to determine the impact of chronic pathology on treatment efficacy. : Thirty cases of children aged 1-16 years (18 boys, 12 girls) were analyzed, identifying 13 pathogens, including 8 Gram-positive and 5 Gram-negative bacteria. : Among the patients, 11 girls presented with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) type B, while one boy and one girl had acute myeloid leukemia, and, as for boys, three had ALL type T and two had pre-B ALL.
